Since swapping his microphone for a laptop, Justin Tranter has become pop's MVP — writing hits for Justin Bieber, Fall Out Boy, DNCE and 5 Seconds Of Summer. He's particularly adept at helping female artists channel their voice as his cuts with Selena Gomez ("Good For You"), Gwen Stefani ("Used To Love You"), Britney Spears ("Slumber Party"), Julia Michaels ("Issues") and Kesha ("Finding You") attest. In fact, there's barely a pop icon in the game that hasn't benefitted from Justin's mighty pen.
I recently spoke with the former Semi Precious Weapons frontman about his incredible songwriting success and future projects (including Lady Gaga's new album). Towards the end of the interview, I asked Justin to describe his many famous collaborators using one word and he was more than up for the challenge. The songwriter was only stumped, albeit temporarily, when it came to Club Queen/Real Housewife Erika Jayne. See his answers below and read the full interview here.
Selena Gomez:
Heart.
Gwen Stefani:
Icon.
Britney Spears:
Queen.
Fergie:
Fierce.
Lady Gaga:
That's tough because I already used "Queen." Passion.
Hailee Steinfeld:
Oh, I love that you included her. Honest.
Julia Michaels:
Brilliant.
Kesha:
Fire.
JoJo:
Vocallllllls. Please make sure you print that with multiple L's.
Camilla Cabello:
Eye of the tiger.
Janelle Monae:
Art.
Erika Jayne:
Let me just break everything down for you, she doesn't get one word. So, Erika and I have been friends for a long time. Then I get an email from my publisher saying, "Hey, this new Real Housewife is kind of sweeping the nation. I don't know if you would ever want to write a song for a Real Housewife, but if you do… and I was like, "That's my friend, yes. Put me in the studio now!" So we did "How Many Fucks" and I just love it. She's so amazing. But if you want one word, I'll give you one… hold on. You gotta do these things right. Priceless.
