Selena Gomez's Mom Mandy Teefey Talks Candidly About Their Justin Bieber Tabloid 'Drama'

Last winter, months before Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez would end their on-off relationship again, Gomez's mother Mandy Teefey was reported to be hospitalized in part because of the stress Gomez's renewed romance with the Biebs caused her. The two had also unfollowed each other on Instagram, causing some fans to believe they had a falling out. But it's May now, Gomez ended things with Bieber back in March, and Teefey spoke in an interview with Entertainment Tonight about their relationship and her experience being part of Selena Gomez tabloid drama.

First off, when asked if she and Gomez were doing okay, Teefey suggested they never weren't: "Yeah, I mean, she's my daughter. Like, you know, it's lifeline."

On people—and outlets—writing gossip about her and Gomez, Teefey said, "You can't fight it. It's just whatever people put out there, they put out there."

She also candidly discussed how weird it was for her to be dragged into tabloid reports about her daughter: "I don't see why I'm relevant," she said. "I'm out here, if you follow her career, I really don't do interviews unless it's for charity or something important—like this, [13 Reasons Why season 2] is important to me. This probably won't happen on all my projects. What I don't like about it, even for the celebrities themselves that get wrapped in that is what people don't realize is that everyone out here, they're people too. And they can make things messier, you know, like on reality shows, like when you see most of those families fall apart. They barely make it though because the world is now putting their opinion on. And so that's why I would never do a reality show like, ever because I don't want it to mess with my family. Because family is the most important thing there is. Nothing else should really matter. So I don't know why anyone cares, really, about me, like honestly, in that sense. I don't really know why they care in that world. I don't know. It's interesting. It comes with the territory, I guess."
