A familiar face will return to the stage for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday: James Corden, who is hosting for the second year in a row. Corden has become beloved to American audiences as the host of The Late Late Show thanks to his handy knack for going viral. Ahead of Sunday's ceremony, we've answered five questions you might have about late night's favorite Brit.
1. Where is James Corden from?
Corden got his big break originating the role of Timms in the stage production The History Boys in his hometown of London in 2004. He reprised the role in the 2006 film adaptation, and went on to write and star in the BBC show Gavin & Stacey. He made cameo appearances on Doctor Who and hosted the comedy-sports panel show A League of Their Own. His turn as the lead in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway in 2012 brought him to the U.S. his star continued to rise when he played the Baker in the film adaptation of Into The Woods alongside Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt in 2014. In 2015, he succeeded Craig Ferguson as the host of The Late Late Show on CBS.
2. Is James Corden married?
Yes! Corden was introduced to his wife, Julia Carey, by his former roommate and History Boys co-star Dominic Cooper. Cooper is godfather to Max, one of the couple's three children. Their third child was born in December right before show time, so Corden enlisted pal Harry Styles to fill in for him as host.
3. What channel is James Corden on?
Corden is the go-to CBS host these days: Not only does he host The Late Late Show, he also hosted the 70th Tony Awards in 2016, and is returning to host the Grammys for the second consecutive year in 2018. Daveed Diggs poked fun at the network's love for him in their Tony-opening Hamilton parody rap: "With his talk show, network honchos saw how this could be a classic exercise in realizing corporate synergy."
4. How old is James Corden?
At 39 years old, Corden has already had an illustrious career. He won a Tony Award in 2012 for his leading role in One Man, Two Guvnors, a Critic's Choice Award for Best Talk Show in 2016, and Emmy Awards for Outstanding Interactive Program and Outstanding Variety Special for The Late Late Show in 2016 as well as Outstanding Special Class Program in 2017 for hosting the Tonys, among a host of other awards.
5. How tall is James Corden?
Corden is 5 feet 8 inches tall, though his height isn't really a factor in his most popular segment, Carpool Karaoke. Since the bit first debuted, Corden has driven everyone from Justin Bieber to Adele. The segment was so successful it was picked up as its own show on Apple Music. Carpool Karaoke isn't The Late Late Show's only runaway hit: the Drop the Mic segment spun off into its own show on TBS.
BONUS: Was James Corden in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?
Eagle-eyed fans could have sworn they spotted Corden perishing in an X-Wing during Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it was just a Jedi mind trick. Corden confirmed to NME that he does not, in fact, make an appearance in the film. Also addressing the rumor, Lucasfilm exec Pablo Hidalgo wrote on Twitter, "Sounds like they're confusing Mr. Corden with the pilot played by Jamie Christopher." Still, fans might be tickled that Corden's clone was attacked in a galaxy far, far away.
