Justin Bieber's Religious Tattoos

There are tons of celebrities out there who have riddled their bodies with tattoos, but Justin Bieber could be the most famous among them. Fans are enamored by the Canadian superstar's ink on his body based on media coverage. Unknown to most people, though, many of his tattoos bear Christian symbolism.

Reuters/David McNewSinger Justin Bieber arrives at the 2015 American Music Awards in Los Angeles, California, November 22, 2015.

Bieber has made his religiosity known with a tattoo of the crucifix in the middle of his chest. There is also an inscription of Yeshua, the Hebrew name of Jesus, on the side of his abdomen, the same tattoo his father has. The word "Purpose" is also inscribed on his abs which presumably has a religious connotation, apart from being the name of his album. He added the Christianity-themed tattoos in 2012 with a portrait of Jesus on his left leg and an illustration of a pair of praying hands on the back at his left calf.

The years 2013–14 were tough for the pop star as he figured from one misdemeanor to another. This may have prompted him to inscribe the phrase "Forgive" on the right side of his waist. On his back is the phrase, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path," which was taken from Psalm 119:105.

In May 2016, Bieber surprised his fans by marking his face. "Yes, I did tattoo a small cross near the corner of Justin's eye," tattoo artist Jonathan "JonBoy" Valena explained to E! News. "It was a representation of his faith in Jesus and his journey with finding purpose in God."

At a concert in Bologna, Italy, Justin lifted his shirt mid-performance and revealed to the audience the words "Son of God" emblazoned on his abdomen.

The pop superstar has 56 tattoos all in all that depict various themes, but what stand out are the decorations that reflect his Christian faith.
