From Justin Bieber's shorts set to Lil Pump's fuzzy turtleneck, these were the looks that killed it at Coachella.
Historically, the style that makes new at Coachella—for better or for worse—belongs to the women. You know: a lot of that hat. But this year, the men were determined to take back the headlines. And wow, did they ever. Despite sweltering temperatures in the high 90s, performers like Migos, G-Eazy, and YG did not shy away from serving seriously over the top looks. While some were a little confusing (mohair turtlenecks ) most were just really, really fun. We don't know if the stylists were suffering from heat exhaustion or dabbling in hallucinogens, but we are feeling the results. Here are some of our favorite—and most demented—Coachella looks.
YG
A Tommy Bahama-style shirt (covered in fish? Butterflies? Fish with wings?) and paired with red track pants is an inspired combination we are personally committing to rocking every day of summer. YG might have been brought out to support Cardi B, but the biggest feature spot of the day was the red bandana knotted nonchalantly at his neck, resting atop two massive chains.
Justin Bieber
Bieber may not have been performing, but his "blending in at Coachella" look was immediately newsworthy. His festival attire involved Vetements socks (no shoes!) a pink bucket hat, a bandana (noticing a trend yet?), a Gucci crossbody bag, and a Hawaiian-print shirt with matching shorts.
Leon Bridges
Leon Bridges also adopted the neckerchief—but in black, where it flowed seamlessly with the rest of his monochromatic fit, which included an embroidered silk shirt and a beanie. Just a quick reminder, the temperature was in the mid 90s. But he looked smooth as hell, so...
Lil Pump
Yowzers. Dip-dyed purple dreads, a goatee, and a white Angora turtleneck sweater. This might be the first time someone has channeled Anna Karina and Adam Duritz simultaneously. Lil Pump also managed to work in a bandana, though his was secured just above his right knee. This is art.
Aminé
We do not have all the answers when it comes to Amine's Coachella look, but we're feeling the military-style vest refashioned in textile topping off his all white ensemble. And this man is truly pulling off this red-orange eye look.
Brockhampton
An aside: it would be absurd to mentioned military-style vests without talking about the literal bulletproof vests Brockhampton wore. Everyone's favorite demented blue man group always put on visually compelling shows, but their Coachella look was especially striking. Super baggy light-wash jeans were paired with chunky white dad sneakers—and of course those vests, emblazoned with everything from unprintable slurs to "WAKANDA."
Perfume Genius
Part David Byrne, part Freddie Mercury, Perfume Genius' boxy paisley suit, paired with a simple tank and block-heeled crocodile boots, is instantly iconic. Pair with a light berry lipstick to truly get the look.
Kendrick Lamar
Like Bieber, Kendrick also went with matching separates, but in a very different direction. The Coachella special guest took denim on denim to the next level with knee-length cut offs, thrown on over yet another Hawaiian shirt. Slightly higher degree of difficulty here.
Migos
If you thought any over-the-top Coachella looks list would somehow forget the Migos, don't fear. We'll round this out with Quavo and Offset, with a shoutout to the latter's refusal to let a little heat get in between a man and his sequined bomber. While Quavo stuck with skinny jeans, tiny glasses, and heavy jewelry, Offset wore a literal house around his neck and the 2018 equivalent of a technicolor dreamcoat: a rainbow sequin bomber with "libertine" emblazoned across the back.
