Selena Gomez's Mom Wants Her Daughter to Stay Away From This Male Celebrity (Hint: It's Not ...

Now that the Time's Up and #MeToo movements have been empowering victims of sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace, many abusers have been called out. This has also led to writer and director Woody Allen being back in the hot seat.

Allen's adopted daughter has long been alleging that he molested her when she was just seven years old. He denied it and has never been charged, despite a judge saying his behavior was "grossly inappropriate and that measures must be taken to protect [Dylan Farrow]." He then went on to marry Mia Farrow's adopted daughter Soon-Yi.

Farrow is taking Hollywood to task because it is still supporting Allen's work, so now the stars still working with him are being held accountable. One of those stars is Selena Gomez, who hasn't publicly taken a stance against the director, although her mother has.

Here are seven things to know about Gomez's controversial choice to work with Allen and what her mother has to say about it.

1. Selena Gomez and Mandy Teefey have reportedly not been getting along lately

Gomez's mother has been open about her differences with her daughter, which have been particularly difficult to navigate lately. The two have reportedly not been getting along recently, and a big part of that is because she's once again dating Justin Bieber.

A member of their family told TMZ, "Justin is a vile human and will never be accepted by us. As long as she is even speaking to him in any way, it is not only disrespectful to everyone around her; it is disrespectful to herself."

2. Gomez dropped references to her mother on Instagram

Amidst these rumored problems, Gomez made headlines for making big changes to her Instagram account, including changing her profile picture to her mother's face.

She also posted a picture in front of her childhood home with the caption, "In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I'm grateful for a voice that can enable change today. Even when I don't know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you."

3. Teefey claims she told Gomez not to work with Woody Allen

Following her daughter's decision to work with Allen, an Instagram user asked her mother, Mandy Teefey, to make Gomez apologize.

The mother commented back, "Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn't want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn't click. Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears."

This isn't the first time that Gomez's choice to be in the project has come up. She personally was confronted with it in an interview.

A lot of actors are under scrutiny for working with Allen, especially during the #MeToo movement. Gomez, who is one of the lead stars in Allen's A Rainy Day in New York, is one of them.

When asked if she thought about the child molestation allegation against Allen before signing on to work with him, the star gave a very vague answer. She told Billboard:

To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer — not because I'm trying to back away from it. [The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie]. They popped up in the midst of it. And that's something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, 'Wow, the universe works in interesting ways.'

Although it seems like Gomez is trying to avoid falling one way or the other on the issue, her co-star has made a decision.  Timothée Chalamet announced on Instagram that he is donating his salary for A Rainy Day in New York to charity. He wrote:

I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: TIME'S UP, The LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN, I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

6. Rebecca Hall has also said she regrets doing the film

Before Chalamet's announcement, Rebecca Hall took to Instagram to also express her regret for working on A Rainy Day in New York.

She also addressed Farrow directly, saying, "After reading and re-reading Dylan Farrow's statements of a few days ago and going back and reading the older ones – I see, not only how complicated this matter is, but that my actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed."

7. Alec Baldwin defends Allen

Gomez isn't the only actor who isn't explicitly taking a stand against Allen.

In light of all this controversy, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin tweeted this from their foundation's account: "Woody Allen was investigated forensically by two states (NY and CT) and no charges were filed. The renunciation of him and his work, no doubt, has some purpose. But it's unfair and sad to me. I worked w WA 3 times and it was one of the privileges of my career."
