After dropping off two short-film music videos recently, Future seems to be expanding his reach to the film world. Strengthening his chops a bit more, Future has signed on to co-produce Sony's remake of the 1972 film Superfly, Deadlinereports.
The Superfly remake will be directed by Director X, who has worked on music videos for a slew of artists, including Drake, Usher, Justin Bieber and more. The film will also star Trevor Jackson (Grown-ish, Burning Sands) as Youngblood Priest and Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton, The Chi) as Eddie.
Future will co-produce alongside Joel Silver, known mostly for producing movies like Lethal Weapon and The Matrix trilogy.
On Tuesday (Jan. 16), Director X posted a photo of what appears to be the film's cast announcing that he'll be directing the remake. Future, Jackson and Mitchell are pictured in the photo, as well as 21 Savage and music producer Zaytoven.
"When I went back and watched the original, I was struck by how relevant the themes are," Director X told Deadline. "The pursuit of the American Dream is eternal -- everyone's always on the hustle, because you've got to be… and Superfly is about pulling off the ultimate hustle to get out of the game. Our goal is to make it modern -- to make a movie where the style, the art direction, the camera movements are all part of what makes the movie Superfly. With this film, my goal is to honor the lineage of an iconic title that the community has loved for decades."
Billboard has reached out to Future's reps for comment.
