A life-changing event has forced former couple — singers Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez — to reconnect.
Multiple media outlets have revealed that after Bieber learned Miss Gomez underwent a kidney transplant, he made an effort to reach out to her.
TMZ was one of the first publications to confirm that the exes had stopped talking over a year ago.
The reliable celebrity site also explained that Bieber was unaware that Gomez had health issues that prompted emergency surgery.
Upon learning the news, the Canadian phoned Gomez and apologized for his behavior and offered her well wishes.
The Weeknd's girlfriend told family friends that the gesture moved her.
One pal said: "She is telling friends she believes she and Justin are adults now and can finally be friends. They even apologized for their high school behavior toward one another. He was shocked to find out what was going on and apologize for the way he treated Selena when they were dating."
A few weeks ago, the Texan artist surprised the world by confessing that her battle with lupus caused her to undergo a kidney transplant over the summer.
In a touching Instagram post, the former child star revealed that her best friend, Francia Raisa, saved her life by donating a kidney.
She wrote: "So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."
Gomez thanked her BFF for her sacrifice by saying: "And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis."

While Gomez is happy to have Bieber's friendship and compassion, she is happy and is in love with The Weeknd and is hoping to get married soon.
