TV Hunter's Fall Preview: 'Valor'

Cast: Christina Ochoa, Matt Barr, Charlie Barnett

Premise: Two military helicopter squadron pilots must grapple with the aftermath of a failed mission and prepare to rescue the men left behind. First impression: There is something unexciting about helicopters. That's not to say they aren't important to missions all over the world. But cinematically, they aren't very thrilling. So to base an entire series around them and the people who fly them is an interesting choice for The CW's first foray into military stories. It's off brand for the younger-skewing network, and not for any good reason. The pilot is choppy to say the least, and we're still fuzzy on what the point of the show is beyond a rescue mission that could be stretched out for weeks. There's a real effort being made to make it feel organically part of The CW (love triangles, pretty people, Justin Bieber quotes). But if the pilot is any indication, it doesn't have a smooth landing.
