'Despacito' Broke These Charting Records This Week

While it might not have matched the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 just yet (though it is painfully close), Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's massive collaboration "Despacito" seems to make history in different ways every with every frame it remains at the peak of the all-encompassing chart here in America.

This turn, the blockbuster breaks several new records, proving that it is one the country won't soon forget.

Most Weeks At No. 1 For A Primarily Non-English Song

One of the details that makes the song's rise and stay at the top of the Hot 100 so incredible is the fact that "Despacito" is almost entirely in a language that is not English. The track is sung primarily in Spanish, with only Justin Bieber contributing English vocals, and even he drifts into Spanish at points. The original version of the chart-topper is completely Spanish, and it wasn't until Bieber lent both his name and his famous voice to the tune (as well as at least a few English words) that the American market properly woke up to the hit it had been sleeping on.

No other song sung in another language has ever lasted as long at the top as "Despacito" has, but then again, only one other song in history has managed that long of a stay. Last week, Lusi Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's smash was tied with "Macarena," which previously held the record for the longest stay at No. 1 for a non-English track, but now that title has been snatched.

Longest-Running No. 1 Hit This Decade (And Century)

With one more week at No. 1 than Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk!," Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's biggest hit is now the longest-running leader of this decade, though it didn't have much competition here. "Funk!" is the only track since 2010 to last at least 14 weeks, though that pool grows considerably when looking beyond just the past few years.

"Despacito" is also the longest-running chart-owner of the twenty-first century, beating out half a dozen other tunes that held on at the peak of the Hot 100 for 14 weeks.
