Most viewed YouTube videos – 10 most popular videos of all time, including Psy, Justin Bieber ...

YOUTUBE is now the second biggest search engine on the internet, coming in behind Google who have claimed the top spot.

The video sharing platform is now a go to for anyone who wants instructions for a task, a new look or to see their favourite performers.

Kay Perry's famous roar earned her a place in the YouTube chart

But as we increasingly turn to YouTube for entertainment, the viewing figures on their videos have shot up through the roof with many clips up into the billions.

Here are the ten most popular YouTube videos of all time... and some may surprise you.

10. Roar by Katy Perry

Katy took a break from kissing girls and marrying Russell Brand to release this chart banger in 2013.

The empowering ballad contains the message: "I am a champion and you'll going to hear me roar."

We have heard her roar, in fact Katy's roar has been watched more than 2.11 billion times by fans keen to join in with the animal noises.

The impressive viewing figures have earned Katy a place at number 10 in the chart.

9. Sugar by Maroon 5

YouTube

Back in 2015 Maroon 5 released the video for their single Sugar in which the band packed their instruments up into a 1950s style convertible and road tripped across LA wedding crashing as they went.

Lead singer Adam Levine headed up the stunt which saw the band set up a temporary stage at each wedding and then perform for a surprised bride and groom on their big day.

Fans of the band lapped up the uplifting video and have viewed it no less that 2.13 billion times.

With just (!) 20 million views more than Katy, Maroon 5 have snagged ninth place in the chart.

8. Bailando by Enrique Iglesias

The first of two non-English videos to reach out chart, Enrique Iglesias's Bailando may be a shock entry to anglophones but to Spanish speakers there will be no surprises here.

The latin-mega track soared in the YouTube charts after being released in 2014 with 2.22 billion views, while the English version has only been viewed 230 million times (what an embarrassment).

The video sees stunning dancer Ana Karla Suarez putting Enrique through his paces as well as various modern dancers and even some choreographed keepie uppies with a football.

7. Shake It Off by Taylor Swift

Tay Tay takes seventh place in our chart with her high-energy video Shake It Off.

In 2014, when Taylor was dating she released the single from her album 1989.

Fans couldn't get enough of the funny vid, which sees Taylor try - and fail - to replicate some tricky dance styles from ballet to break dancing.

The video has racked up 2.23 billion views earning it seventh place in the list.

6. Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster

The only contribution to our chart which isn't a music video Masha and the Bear has snuck onto the list with their cutesy comedy.

The kids show has become a phenomenon since it was released in 2009.

Children can't get enough of the character's antics boosting the viewing figures for the episode up to almost 2.3 million.

5. Despacito by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee

The second and highest rated Spanish track in our list is Despacito by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee.

One of the biggest songs of the years so far, the most viewed version doesn't include Justin Bieber, depsite the pop sensation jumping on a remix of the track later on.

The high energy video follows the plight of a particularly attractive young woman as she walks through the streets of Puerto Rico and makes her way into a night club where a lot of dancing ensues.

The model in question is actually Zuleyka Rivera, also known as Miss Universe 2006, and people have tuned in 2.38 billion times to see her strut her stuff.

4. Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars

Everyone's favourite Candian Bruno Mars is up next with his 2014 anthem Uptown Funk.

The Grenade singer performed some of his signature dance moves for the video, all the while being followed around by Mark Ronson on the hood of a car - sinister stuff.

The catchy track well and truly caught on and totted up more than 2.5 billion views, narrowly missing the bronze.

3. Sorry by Justin Bieber

YouTube

If we're all honest, Justin has a lot to be sorry for.

Candian pop star Justin has been doing a good job of rubbing people up the wrong way for years, so this public apology was long over due.

So many people were keen to hear the Biebs make amends that they tuned in to see the music video in their billions.

The dance video - which doesn't actually feature Justin at all - has amassed an incredible audience with 2.6 billion views.

2. See You Again by Whiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth

Taking things down a notch with this much slower jam, Whiz Khalifa is in at number two with his tearjerker track See You Again.

Ignore Charlie Puth's slightly uncomfortable eye contact at the beginning and you may actually enjoy the emotional-filled song.

Part of the soundtrack to Fast & Furious 7, it is a touching tribute to the late Paul Walker who died during filming.

The heartfelt track has now been viewed 2.8 billion times, putting it second in the chart.

1. Gangnam Style by Psy

YouTube

With all these classic hits of modern times, I'm sure we're all expecting a belter in the top spot.

Could it be Lennon? Jackson? Adele? No... it's Psy. The South Korean singer who birthed the unique Gangnam style dance.

People have watched the video a staggering 2.89 billion times. Genuinely staggered.

I haven't included the actual video in this article... he doesn't need encouraging.
