Billboard Latin Music Awards Dominate Spanish-Language Primetime

Buoyed by a slew of premieres and cross-genre collaborations, the Billboard 2018 Latin Music Awards, which aired live on Telemundo on Friday (April 27), dominated Spanish-language TV primetime, delivering 2.178 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.

With the simulcast on Telemundo and sister network Universo, the show reached a cumulative audience of 4,616,000 total viewers, including 2,321,000 adults 18-49.

The show also ranked as the #1 program regardless of language in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, San Francisco and Sacramento, among adults 18-49.

Key performances included artist of the year winner Ozuna performing "La modelo" with a very pregnant Cardi B, Jennifer Lopez premiering her new single "El Anillo" (The Ring), J Balvin and Nicky Jam's premiere of hit "X" and Daddy Yankee's remix of "Dura" featuring Becky G and Patty Cantú.

The soulful side of the show was felt with performances by Maná, who received their Lifetime Achievement Award from Carlos Santana, and pop star Chayanne premiering his new ballad.

On social media, the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards ranked as the #1 most social non-sports program of the day across all broadcast and cable networks. On the day of the show, 333,000 U.S. unique users were reached across digital platforms, a 274% increase vs. 2017.

Daddy Yankee was the big winner of the evening with eight awards, followed by Luis Fonsi and Justin Bieber with seven and Shakira with five.
