Selena Gomez did not tell Kourtney Kardashian to "back off" Justin Bieber, despite a claim. As Gossip Cop has already stressed, there is no love triangle here. We can bust this latest bogus allegation and explain how it originated.

The current issue of OK! Australia features the headline, "Selena Slams Kourt: 'Back Off My Man.'" But Gomez never said this to Kardashian or anyone else. It was manufactured for a fake narrative in which her supposed "fears over Justin's flirting threaten to spark another meltdown." It's specifically alleged Gomez "fears Justin has broken her trust amid reports he's been secretly texting his ex."

"When Selena and Justin got back together, she made him delete many girls from his phone contacts, and the first name she wanted removed was Kourtney's," a so-called "insider" is quoted as saying. This purported source maintains, however, that "Kourtney never removed Justin's [number], and she started talking with him again." The gossip magazine claims the renewed contact began after both Bieber and Kardashian spent time in Park City earlier this month.

Asserts the outlet, "While there's nothing to suggest [the communication] was anything but friendly, Justin and Kourt's close bond has always been a thorn in Selena's side." No evidence is provided to support the contention that Gomez has "always" been bothered by Bieber's dynamic with Kardashian, but the publication nonetheless contends that "after seeing photos of the pair in the same town, Selena regrets she didn't go further." Maintains the alleged tipster, "She should have made Justin block Kourtney."

If any of this sounds familiar, it's because it didn't originate with the Aussie tabloid. These claims are actually from last week's Life & Style, which featured a nearly identical article about Gomez being upset over Bieber and Kardashian supposedly texting. As Gossip Cop reported then, while it was true Bieber and Kardashian were both in Utah in early January, the allegations about them getting "back in touch" and angering Gomez were entirely made-up.

Australia's OK! has simply repurposed the debunked, phony assertions, almost word for word, thanks to sharing a parent company, Bauer Media, with the U.S. tabloid. But there's another problematic aspect to this feature. Accompanying the main story is a sidebar titled, "Her Mum Hits Back! Mandy Finally Spills On…" As seen in the screengrab below, there's then three blurbs with quotes from Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, about "Bieber's return," "Selena's health" and "losing her job."

Unlike the "insider" quotes mentioned above, these statements are actually real. They were made by Teefey exclusively to Gossip Cop and we published them more than a week ago. But nowhere does the magazine give us any credit. There is no attribution whatsoever, which gives readers the false appearance that she spoke to the gossip outlet. The publication is lying about that, just like it's lying about Gomez telling Kardashian to "back off."
