You started MissMalini.com before social media exploded into what it is today – how did you get the word around?
It happened organically. I started to adopt different social media platforms as they popped up and I spent hours on them – still do! Initially, getting the word out about my blog relied heavily on my radio show, and then slowly Twitter and Facebook. I think the key was being aware of my audience on different mediums, and always engaging with them in a two-way conversation, so that the blog never felt like a dead phone conversation.
When did you realise you wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry?
The first time I stepped on stage as a backup dancer, I knew it was entertainment for life. My first show was probably back in 1998 in Delhi for Sukhbir. But the one I'll never forget is the Channel [V] Awards, where we danced behind Daler Mehendi, the Spice Girls and Peter Andre. He was my Justin Bieber back in the day.
The first time a celebrity gave you a shoutout?
OMG, so many! But my fave first was Shah Rukh Khan simply saying, "Hi Malini, you're sweet." And my Twitter exploded.
Your biggest weakness?
Bacon and FOMO.
What's the most valuable piece of advice you've ever received?
Don't wish time away, and keep busy. (With regards to long distance relationships!)
