Justin Bieber's Mom Pattie On Selena Gomez: 'We Have a Special Bond' | PEOPLE.com

Pattie Mallette is a Selena Gomez fan.

The mother of pop star Justin Bieber lavished the Bad Liar songstress, 25, with words of praise when she spoke with People Saturday as she served as a keynote speaker for an anti-human trafficking nonprofit in Los Angeles.

'If he loves her I love her and I've met her and we have a special bond so I think she's precious,' Mallette, 41, said at the Justice Speaks: Holiday Benefit Luncheon at the Wilshire Country Club.

Mallette told the publication that she couldn't 'really speak on their relationship,' as 'that's between them,' but she will 'support anything' in regards to her son, 23, who accompanied her to the event.

'I don't know so much about their personal relationship because he doesn't share a whole lot, but I love her,' Mallette said.

While the mother of the Love Yourself singer didn't get too specific, she tellingly said that 'anyone with real love in their life is more grounded,' seemingly another endorsement toward Justin's revived relationship with the Texas-born beauty, who he's been linked to sporadically over the past seven years.

Bieber and Selena, a source told the magazine, 'are great and very happy' as the year draws to a close, as they're seeking to carry on their romance in a 'low-key' manner their latest time together.

Mallette intimated that the bright glare of the show business spotlight can muddy the waters when it comes to relationships.

The magazine reported that Bieber carried a Bible with him to the event, which comes as no surprise as he's become closely associated with the burgeoning church Hillsong - he and Selena have attended services there together - and is close friends with the church's pastor, Carl Lentz.

Mallette said her son is 'just keeping his focus on God, and really trying to figure out what counts and what matters.

Selena recently confirmed she and Justin had reunited in an interview with Billboard

'I'm 25. I'm not 18, or 19, or 20,' she told the magazine of reconnecting with Justin. 'I cherish people who have really impacted my life.

'So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away.'

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are dating again. The couple confirmed their relationship status with a kiss at a hockey game recently after getting spotted on numerous outings.

Although they have reignited their romance, it was previously reported that "people around her [Selena] are worried that she'll end up heartbroken all over again". But, it seems like Gomez, 25, is having a wonderful time with Bieber, 25, with a source telling Hollywood Life that the Same Old Love singer is "crazy in love" with the Canadian singer.

Now, a new report from the gossip website has claimed that Gomez "loves how strong their relationship is today", with them having a new level of trust for each other.

"Selena came to a happy realization over the holidays that she really does trust Justin now more than ever," a source said. "She had no worries at all about leaving him alone for a few days and it did not bother her one bit that he left on a guys trip to Canada."

The couple is reportedly in a strong place in their relationship, with the source saying the experience Gomez has been having with Bieber is completely different to that when they first dated because he has matured as a person.

"She has total faith in his loyalty and does not feel uncomfortable at all while he is travelling or on the road away from her," the source said and added that Gomez was also confident about Bieber's commitment to their relationship.

It seems like they are really into each other this time around after ending their romance in 2014 after three years of dating.

The couple is reportedly house-hunting in California, with a source telling Life&Style magazine, "He's already looking at homes in the Calabasas, CA area. They just can't wait to start their life together."

Justin Bieber's Mom Pattie Mallette Approves Of Selena Gomez: 'I Love Her'

Justin Bieber's mom, Pattie Mallette, had nothing but good things to say about her son's on again off again girlfriend, Selena Gomez.

While speaking with People at the Justin Speaks Holiday Benefit Luncheon in Los Angeles on Saturday, Mallette admitted that Bieber doesn't share a lot of personal things about him and Gomez.

But based on what she knows of Gomez and how the singer is towards Bieber's mom, Mallette said that she supports whatever it is that's going on between the two.

"I support anything he does, if he loves her I love her, and I've met her and we have a special bond so I think she's precious. I can't really speak on their relationship, that's between them," she said.

Unfortunately, Mallette did not say exactly whether or not Bieber and Gomez are officially back together, but she did not say that her son cares deeply for the "Wolves" singer.

Rumors about Bieber and Gomez getting back together started swirling a couple of months ago after the two were spotted hanging out. Gomez just underwent kidney transplant and reunited with Bieber. Around the same time, she and The Weeknd called things off.

Last month, a source said that Bieber and Gomez have decided to keep their relationship as low-key as possible. "They are great and very happy. It just got too crazy last week with all the attention," the source told People.

The same insider said that Bieber wants to keep focusing on himself and his growth because this was the reason why he cancelled his tour. "Justin cancelled his tour to take care of his mental health and he want to continue to focus on this. He didn't like the chaos," the source said.

Mallette's mom seconded the unnamed source's statement from last month during her interview on Saturday. She also said that Bieber's main focus is on God.

"I think he's just keeping his focus on God, and really trying to figure out what counts and what matters. I think he's trying to be somehow normal in such an abnormal world, trying to find that balance," she said.

Justin Bieber Says He's 'Using My Resources For Restoration After California Wildfire'

Justin Bieber took to social media to announce that he is extending a helping hand to the victims of the California wildfires. Selena Gomez's boyfriend right away received support from former One Direction member Niall Horan.

On Friday, Bieber shared on Instagram a black and white clip of him talking to the camera about what he plans to do to help the people suffering in the wake of the wildfires that consumed numerous property and houses in California.

"I'm going to have a conversation with some people and we are going to get moving on a solution. Obviously I'm not a fireman but I can use my resources to figure out ways to get some sort of restoration in certain communities and fundraisers or whatever we can do," he said.

The "What Do You Mean" hitmaker spoke a message of encouragement to the victims saying, "I'm going to get on that and in the meantime, all the families and all the people who are struggling, just know that everything is going to be OK."

Immediately after posting the clip, the 23-year-old recording artist shared a list of items that his followers could help donate to the victims. The list includes: new/gently used clothes, blankets, pillows, personal and feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, toys, food items and water.

Horan, who stumbled upon Bieber's video and his call for donations, has since offered help. "Good man, Give me a shout if you need a hand," the 24-year-old Irish singer commented on Bieber's Instagram.

The singer has also talked about his intention of helping Bieber's cause in an interview with the Daily Mirror. "We both live in LA and that's not too far from my house really where all those fires are kicking off, it's absolutely horrific. Three to four hundred homes destroyed and people's lives in tatters, so I thought about it when Justin reached out and sent that video," Horan said.

When asked if he is willing to come up with a charity single with Bieber, Horan said, "If something is going on like that it's a no-brainer, if he needs a hand with something I'd love to give him a hand."

More than 700 homes and buildings have been consumed by the the six California wildfires, which are unfortunately still burning. Around 8,500 firefighters are doing everything to contain the fires and prevent them from destroying more property and whatnot, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"I don't know so much about their personal relationship because he doesn't share a whole lot, but I love her," she said of Gomez, 25. Eating, sleeping, playing video games: How the livestream boom is making superstars out of ...

How much would you pay to watch somebody eat noodles in real-time? Or fall asleep? Or play a video game?

Across the Asia-Pacific, people doing just that are raking in a fortune.

This is the world of livestreaming, where ordinary people doing ordinary things can become online superstars.

Livestreaming and its tube-video variants is not unknown in the western world, with even pop megastars such as Justin Bieber getting their first exposure on YouTube.

However, livestreaming in particular has become a barnstorming fad in countries such as China, Japan and Singapore, thanks to the wide spread of mobile users and the huge chunk of the world's youth population concentrated in these few countries.

Platforms such as BeLive and Bigo Live allow streamers to broadcast live to audiences around the world.

United Nations data shows 60 percent of the world's populated aged 15 to 24 live in the Asia-Pacific - about 717 million people.

Related Articles

This bulging wedge of people also comprises a huge amount of mobile users and, crucially, in-app spenders.

Research suggests Asian mobile users spend up to three times as much on in-app purchases than Europeans, and no doubt their parents worry in equal measure about their futures.

Livestreaming platforms allow fans and viewers to send "gifts" to performers, which translate to real money for performers, their agents, and the platform itself.

In China alone, the live streaming market for 2016 was worth $6.82 billion - up 180 percent year on year.

This is not necessarily surprising when data also suggests Asia is home to more than half the world's mobile users.

And yet, most performers are almost aggressively, obstinately normal.

One superstar, Liu Jinyin, simply films himself doing his daily chores in his tiny Chinese farming village, such as feeding chooks and working in the fields.

However, his 100,000 viewers are enraptured, claiming the homely domesticity Liu portrays reminds them of their own fondly remembered childhood.

That nostalgia was worth more than $16,000 across six months for Liu, according to the Chengdu Economic Daily - more than three times his previous wage.

It appears to be the potential for interaction with the onscreen stars that motivates the fans, who can message during streams, send gifts and interact in the virtual world.

Other stars draw audiences by eating lunch, singing, chatting to fans or even simply going to sleep.

Niall Horan says collaborating with Justin Bieber would be a "no brainer" as he reaches out to help ...

[unable to retrieve full-text content]

Niall Horan says collaborating with Justin Bieber would be a "no brainer" after offering to get involved in his pledge to help those affected by fires in LA. The former One Direction star reached out to the Canadian singer after he posted a heartfelt pledge on Instagram. And during a chat at Capital's Jingle ...

Justin Bieber Did NOT Make “$10 Million Gift” To “Cult” Church, Despite Claim

Justin Bieber Gift Church

(Getty Images)

Justin Bieber did not a make a "$10 million gift" to a "cult" church, despite a claim circulating both online and in print. He actually didn't make a $10 million donation to a church of any kind. Gossip Cop can help set the record straight.

In an interview published online by Rolling Stonelast month, Post Malone was asked about being pals with Bieber, whom he called an "awesome, great dude." The rapper went on to say of the superstar's involvement with Hillsong Church, "He's gotten super-religious recently. Real culty… It's a total cult. He's already given them, like, $10 million." Though the original article noted, "A source close to Bieber denies that he's given $10 million," Starstill saw fit to pick up Malone's assertions a few weeks later and feature them as if they're fact.

In its latest issue, the tabloid writes, "Can you put a price on your salvation? Yes, and it's $10 million — at least that's the going rate for Justin Bieber's soul." The gossip magazine then contends, "His rapper pal let it slip that the star wrote a hefty check to the 'culty' Hillsong Church at Pastor Carl Lentz's urging." Actually, Malone said nothing about Lentz (pictured above with Bieber). So, not only did the outlet repeat something that was disputed at the onset, but it didn't even regurgitate the claims accurately.

The publication fills out the rest of its article by asserting that although Lentz has "helped" Bieber "turn his life around," "he's more interested in opening Justin's wallet, and his Rolodex, than the gates of heaven." A so-called "insider" is quoted as saying, "Hillsong may seem progressive, but make no mistake, Carl is very aggressive about getting his parishioners to fork over their cash." This supposed source adds, "But Justin doesn't mind. He's worth more than $300 million and is convinced helping the church will get him closer to Jesus."

The tabloid ends by encouraging Bieber to "get a good financial advisor." But first Star should invest in a good fact-checker. If the magazine or its "insider" were actually in-the-know, it never would've spread Malone's claim and would've known that it's false. In fact, Lentz has even released a statement slamming Malone for making such an unfounded allegation about Bieber's alleged financial involvement.

The pastor noted, "I put no stock in comments made by people who know absolutely nothing about the subject they are speaking on. I do not know Post Malone and I have no idea why he would say reckless things about our church, which he has never visited. Justin has not given our church $10 million dollars."

Gossip Cop also doesn't put much stock in tabloid stories, especially from the same outlet that ran a ridiculous article earlier this year claiming Bieber asks women about their "relationship with Jesus" before sleeping with them. It seems clear it's Star that could use some salvation, not the singer.

Boyband at the top

At the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas in May, the Top Social Artist was not one of the usual suspects such as singers Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez.

Instead, the fan-voted title went to a South Korean pop group named BTS.

That was only the beginning of the boyband's red-hot streak in the American music scene, as the seven-member group proceeded to make history: The first K-pop group to chart on the US Top 40 as well as perform on major platforms such as last month's American Music Awards.

They have also been appearing on popular talk shows such as The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The hosts have all expressed awe at both the group's talent and also at the intensity of the super fans who wait for them outside the studios.

In June, Time magazine named the band one of 25 most influential people on the Internet.

Given their huge exposure outside South Korea and even beyond Asia, BTS are now arguably the hottest K-pop act in the world.

Comprising members Jin, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook, whose ages range between 20 and 25, the group, which made their debut in 2013, are known for their blend of hip-hop with rock and pop elements in hits such as Danger and Boy In Luv.

Most of the songs are written and produced by the band members themselves, which sets them apart from the typical K-pop group, whose members are merely singing and dancing puppets.

Clearly, there is a lot more to this boyband than just the usual good looks and slick dance moves.

The Sunday Times susses out the factors behind their immense global success.

Why BTS are hot

SOCIAL MEDIA KINGS

Everything revolves around social media these days and BTS are kings of the social media game.

While it is common for celebrities to engage with their fans through Facebook and Instagram, BTS have made this a must-do in their daily lives. That means sharing everything from the usual music video clips to intimate videos of the members clowning about at birthday celebrations.

And unlike other boybands, which typically have separate accounts for each member, the BTS boys share a single account on each platform. It conveniently consolidates everything into one place for fans.

Such strategies are clearly working - their passionate fan base is responding in a major way. On Twitter, the band have amassed 10.9 million followers; on Instagram, they have 7.1 million followers.

Twitter's 2017 statistics report, released last week, saw BTS in top spot for not only being the most tweeted about music artist in the United States, but also in the world.

That is a feather in the cap for the group, who were named Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards in the US in May, a fan-voted award handed out to the artist with the best social media engagement. They beat top American acts such as singers Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

BIG-NAME COLLABORATIONS

Thanks to notable collaborations with American artists, many international music fans got to know about BTS even if they were not clued in on the K-pop scene.

The latest is a remixed version of the BTS tune Mic Drop, with popular DJ Steve Aoki and rapper Desiigner getting in on the action.

The song was a huge hit from the get-go, debuting at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart earlier this week, marking the first time a K-pop group has ever cracked the Top 40.

Only one other Korean act has ever bested this record - when singer Psy's viral phenomenon Gangnam Style peaked at No. 2 in 2012.

In a Billboard interview with Aoki last month, the DJ gushed about the group. He said: "These guys are the geniuses. They're so creative on every level - on their dance, on their sound, on their style, their flow, creatively musically, creatively on the fashion tip. They developed their own brand and they're global. It's incredible working with artists like that."

Earlier in March, American rapper Wale had released the politically charged song Change with BTS member RM, or Rap Monster. The song criticised "the alt-right" and "racist police", among other things.

In September, BTS teamed up with trendy DJ and producer duo The Chainsmokers on the song Best Of Me.

As a result of this partnership, The Chainsmokers vaulted back into the Top 10 of Billboard's Social 50, a list that ranks the most popular artists across various social media platforms.

This is noteworthy given that they had been out of the list for months at that point.

REAL HUMAN BEINGS

K-pop idols are known for being tightly controlled by their management - this is why they appear so polished all the time.

But fans and analysts say BTS are different - they come across as real human beings and not manufactured products.

Thanks to their constant social media updates of candid photos and live stream snippets of their daily lives, fans say the band feel "more accessible".

University student Claire Lim, 23, who has been a fan of BTS for the past two years, says: "I've been following K-pop for years, but BTS are the first group that made me feel like I understand the members' individual personalities and what they are really thinking."

These individual voices are also reflected in the band's songs, which are mostly written and produced by the members. The group are known for tackling political and social issues in their lyrics, which is pretty much unheard of for K-pop idols.

Am I Wrong, for example, condemns political apathy. The lyrics go: "If what you see on the news is nothing to you/If that comment is nothing to you/If that hatred is nothing to you/You're not normal, you're abnormal."

At a press conference to promote the band's latest EP, Love Yourself: Her, in September, BTS member Suga said: "It isn't a BTS album if there isn't a track criticising society."

Perhaps the management's holdis looser because the band's label is Big Hit Entertainment, a tiny outfit compared withmega K-pop music agencies such as S.M. Entertainment and YG Entertainment.

1 Their name is an acronym for the Korean expression, Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to "bulletproof boy scouts". In July, the band announced that the name would also stand for "beyond the scene".

2 Their fans are known collectively as Army, which stands for "Adorable Representative M.C for Youth".

3 Member Rap Monster, born Kim Nam Joon, is the international spokesman for the band as he is the only one fluent in English. He picked up the language from watching the sitcom Friends on DVD as a child.

4 They are the only K-pop act to have been given official Twitter emoji. One is a bulletproof vest and the other is the band's 2017 logo, which looks like a set of opened doors.

5 While known for their Korean songs, they also have two Japanese albums titled Wake Up (2014) and Youth (2016).

Justin Bieber Promises to Help California Wildfire Victims

Justin Bieber plans on using his celebrity status to help those affected by the California wildfires.

In an Instagram video posted on Friday (December 8), the singer-songwriter explained how he is going to get involved — and how others can take part in helping, too. "We are going to get moving on a solution," Justin said, adding that he planned on having a conversation with some of his friends. "Obviously I'm not a fireman but I can use my resources to figure out ways to get some sort of restoration in certain communities."

From there, the pop star included a heartwarming message to those whose lives have been impacted by the devastating natural disaster. "All the families and everyone who are struggling," he said," just know that everything is going to be okay."

Justin then posted an infographic, letting his fans know about donations that were needed and where they could go to bring items locally. The post noted that water was in dire need, along with clothes, bedding, food, and baby products.

CNN reports that the California wildfires have scorched almost 175,000 acres within the week, and have left thousands of people without power, while many others have had to flee their homes. The news outlet adds that the first fatality from the fires has been confirmed this week, when a 70-year-old woman reportedly died from a car crash during evacuation.

In addition to the resources Justin mentioned, you can help the California fire victims in multiple ways, such as donating money online to the American Red Cross or Thomas Fire Fund, and contributing in-person to the Salvation Army and Humane Society. As other outlets have recommended, if you plan on helping locally, please be sure to check that an area is safe before driving, and stay updated on evacuation notices before you travel.

The Skirball fire -which is at 50 percent containment- has threatened multiple celebrity homes in the city of Bel Air, California.

Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, as well as Beyonce and Jay-Z are just some of the A-listers whose homes are threatened by the flames.

Chelsea Handler tweeted she was evacuated from her home on Wednesday, and singer Lionel Richie has even cancelled his scheduled performances due to his evacuation status.

Most Bel-Air residents were allowed back into their homes on Thursday, according to ABC7, but multiple fires such as the deadly Thomas fire are still a blazing threat.

Meanwhile, as Justin takes on his charitable project he also made sure to send some love to his mother Pattie.
