
U2's Joshua Tree 30th-anniversary tour was 2017's top-grossing tour, according to a year-end chart released earlier this week.
According to Pollstar's Top 20 Worldwide Tours of 2017, the Irish band's mammoth trek, which comprised 50 shows in 38 cities, took in a whopping $316 million and reported a total of 2.71 million tickets sold.
U2 were followed by hard rockers Guns N' Roses, who took in US$292.5 million and sold 2.68 million tickets on their 81-date, which included a pit stop at Dublin's Croke Park. The band's tour that sold nearly as many tickets as U2's, but charged an average of $40 less per head.
Coldplay came in third on the list, with the British quartet grossing $238 million from their concerts this year, while Bruno Mars is the highest place solo artist on the touring chart, with $200.1 million total gross on the year, making him fourth overall.
Ed Sheeran, at 26, was the youngest singer in the top 10, raking in US$124.1 million for eighth place, with the singer-songwriter set to embark on another mammoth tour - that will see him play a handful of shows across Ireland - in 2018.

Legendary Canadian singer Celine Dion was the top female act on the list coming in at the 11th spot, with the 'My Heart Will Go On' singer earning $101.2 million in 2017.
While the highest grossing tours of the year were mostly made up of established artists, No. 12 Justin Bieber (23), No. 17 The Weeknd (27) and No. 20 Ariana Grande (24) are the youngest artists to crack the top 20.
The top 20 tours grossed US$2.66 billion, a record high and an increase of more than $264 million from last year.
Pollstar's rankings are based on ticket sales data and do not include revenue from merchandise, which can add a considerable chunk to tour earnings. Their Top 20 chart is available for viewing here
