You know that song 'Despacito'? The Spanish-language earworm by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber that's currently sitting at number one on the charts? It's ok if you don't — apparently Bieber doesn't either.
In a recent live performance Bieber is shown singing along, alternating between saying "I don't know the words so I say…" followed by pretty much anything that will rhyme. Burrito. Doritos. It's all very avant garde.
After he tries to pass the buck to an audience member who waves him away, Bieber then gives up, and goes full gleeful gibberish (and no, we don't mean the Selena Gomez track that he also featured on).
It's certainly…something.
Como cuando eres Justin Bieber y te vale si cantas despacito, rapidito o bien pedito y te sabes tú rola bien poquito. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/S3XtjJ7Juq

No one is saying that Bieber should be fluent in Spanish, a language that an estimated 437 million people around the world speak. But maybe if he took things slowly (which, incidentally is what 'Despacito' means), committing a few minutes worth of lyrics to memory, particularly ones that most likely added another wing to your mansion, shouldn't be too big of an ask.
If we give some credit to the guy who went to the Anne Frank museum and wrote that he hoped Anne would have been a "Belieber" in the guest book, maybe he was joking. Maybe he knows the lyrics, and was just kidding around. But if so, hooo boy, that's disrespectful and maybe even worse.
Who knows. Maybe it's his own subtle form of protest against the song.
