'Justin Bieber impersonator' due in court

Australian Associated Press

A university law lecturer who allegedly posed online as Justin Bieber to source child abuse material from the US singer's fans is due to face court.

Gordon Douglas Chalmers was arrested in November over a string of child sex offences following a tip-off from German and US authorities.

He was then charged with an extra 931 offence safter Queensland detectives seized and searched his computer.

The new charges, dating back to 2007, included indecent treatment of children and making child exploitation material.

Police allege Chalmers used Facebook and Skype to impersonate Bieber and persuade fans to send him explicit images.

The 42-year-old Queensland University of Technology lecturer is listed to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
