'Justin Bieber impersonator' due in court

A university law lecturer who allegedly posed online as Justin Bieber to source child abuse material from young fans is due to face court for the first time since being charged with 931 additional offences.

Gordon Douglas Chalmers had been arrested in November over a string of child sex offences following a tip-off from German and US authorities.

He was then hit with the extra charges after detectives seized and searched his computer.

The new charges, dating back to 2007, include indecent treatment of children and making child exploitation material.

Police have alleged Chalmers used Facebook and Skype to impersonate the pop star and persuade fans to send him explicit images.

The 42-year-old Queensland University of Technology lecturer is listed to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
