An Australian online Justin Bieber impersonator has been charged with more than 900 sex offenses related to children, according to the Queensland Police Service.
Authorities said Thursday the victims included dozens of Bieber's fans from Australia, Britain and the United States. The suspect, who hasn't been identified publicly, already faced charges of possessing material exploiting children, as well as using the internet and social media to entrap children under age 16, according to the New York Times.
Add to that 931 charges for alleged rape, indecent treatment of children and "making child-exploitation material" that authorities say go back at least a decade.
After police raided his home, they found he allegedly used Facebook and Skype to lure victims into sending him explicit images.
Detective Inspector Jon Rousesaid it was important parents of Bieber fans be vigilant.
"This investigation demonstrates both the vulnerability of children that are utilizing social media and communication applications, and the global reach and skill that child-sex offenders have to groom and seduce victims," he said, in a statement. "The fact that so many children could believe that they were communicating with this particular celebrity highlights the need for a serious rethink about the way that we as a society educate our children about online safety.
