Bieber fever: Remember the time Justin Bieber played Bellshill?

Six years ago, a young teenage boy with floppy blonde hair and a guitar sat down in a small Scottish classroom and began to sing.

He'd just met Barack Obama, toured with Taylor Swift and watched as his debut album continued its starry rise to platinum.

That was more than a constellation of songs ago. If Justin Bieber had any plans for world domination back then, he didn't hint at it.

Instead, he held true to his word to play a small Scottish school and sang his heart out for a group of excited young fans after pupil Abbie Milligan won the chance on a radio show to have the star perform at her school.

"I had a great time (today) and I definitely plan to come back to Scotland soon," he promised STV at the time.

And now he has, although he musical megastar has a bit of a bigger venue in mind with more spotlights than chalk dust.

Starting on Thursday, the star will play three nights at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

In December 2015, the star announced the first of his three dates at the Hydro as part of his Purpose UK tour.

Due to high demand, extra dates were later added.

It's been quite the journey for the Canadian singer, whose first forays in the industry began after a talent manager discovered him through his YouTube videos covering songs in 2008.

Signed to RBMG, Bieber released his debut EP, My World, the following year. He became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Bieber released his first full-length studio album, My World 2.0, in 2010. It debuted at or near number one in several countries and was certified triple platinum in America.

It was preceded by his most successful single to date, Baby.

He has sold an estimated 100 million records, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists with one of the largest identifiable fan bases dubbed "beliebers".

Since his first mini-trip to Scotland, he has been listed four times by Forbes magazine among the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world.
