In just four years, the late South Florida rapper XXXTentacion went from 16-year-old Soundcloud upstart to 20-year-old Billboard chart-topper.
After his debut studio album 17 (No. 2 on the Billboard 200) dropped in August 2017, "X" attracted a fervent fan base while drawing controversy for his troubled past, which included charges from a pair of incidents for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and then witness tampering, false imprisonment and aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. His follow-up album ? topped the Billboard 200 upon its March 2018 release.
On Monday (June 18), the rapper was shot and killed while driving in Deerfield Beach, Fla. The news sent shockwaves throughout the hip-hop world, drawing reactions from artists like Kanye West, J. Cole, YG and more.
Whether you detested the man or found solace in his haunting songs, XXXTentacion made an undeniable impact on an emerging generation of rappers and established stars alike. His music has also inspired many an electronic dance remix.
Today, Billboard Dance remembers him with these five dance-floor reworks.
XXXTentacion -- "Jocelyn Flores" (Chrms Trap Remix)

XXXTentacion's song "Jocelyn Flores" is an ethereal, emotional daydream. Chrms Trap beefed it up with an 808 beat to bring the street heat to the introspective single, the original version of which peaked at No. 31 on the Hot 100.
XXXTentacion -- "Look At Me!" (Y2K Trap Remix)
[embedded content]
"Look At Me!" is one of the hardest XXXTentacion songs recorded. The beat is monster noise and has XXXTentacion red-lines all over it. Y2K brings even more white noise and grime to the breakout hit that landed XXXTentacion his first Hot 100 song in April 2017.
Noah Cyrus -- "Again" ft. XXXTentacion (Galactic Marvl Remix)
[embedded content]
XXXTentacion was trying to change his problematic image and reform his violent attitudes; working with pop singer Noah Cyrus was definitely a switch up -- and a very interesting experiment on the pop formula. Galactic Marvl takes the industrial beat to new places with an amplified tempo and high-energy synth slams.
XXXTentacion -- "Looking For A Star" (Prod. by Diplo) (Remedy Remix)
[embedded content]
Diplo has always been an early adopter for interesting musical characters. He helped Justin Bieber remake his public image with catchy dance-pop hits, and he's opened up about potential plans to produce X's next album. This Remedy remix of Diplo and XXXTENTACION's collaboration brings X's vocals back to a dark, trap-ridden place fans are more likely to expect.
"Demons" (Ocean Mix) -- blackbear & XXXTentacion

Though his character isn't nearly as controversial, blackbear is another emotionally-troubled musical figure, and this slow-tempo remix of the pair's collaboration is a match made in heartbreak heaven.
