Before Justin Bieber was a star with 8 Guinness Records and one Grammy, he was a kid with a guitar busking on the steps of Stratford's Avon Theatre in Ontario, Canada. Videos of Bieber singing on those steps soared him to Internet fame and his first record deal at the age of 13. Fittingly, Steps to Stardom is the title of a new Bieber exhibition at Ontario's Stratford Perth Museum, created in collaboration with the star and his family. Doors open 18 February 2018, and tickets just went on sale last week.
The Bieber memorabilia ranges from the adorable (a photo of him banging drums as a tousle-haired kid) to what will have many parents eye-rolling (his sneaker collection). There are awards, clothing he wore at major concerts, even a letter from former First Lady Michelle Obama, all donated by Bieber, his relatives, and Stratford locations with connections to the singer.
This is likely an exhibition that Beliebers will keep returning to. "The single biggest question we get from visitors at the museum is about whether we have anything on Justin," said the museum's general manager John Kastner. "We intend for the exhibit to evolve and change along with Justin's career."
For fans of a massive pop celebrity who is often elusive—deleting his Instagram account (it's back), refusing to take photos with fans, cancelling his Purpose Tour in late 2017 for a more "sustainable… mind, heart and soul", a marked absence in videos like Despacito—the new exhibition is a chance to feel a little closer to the star.
