Car altered by Kramer, Chainsmokers up for auction

CLEAR LAKE — A 1999 Ford Taurus that got famous after its roof was sawed off by The Chainsmokers and videographer Rory Kramer is being sold on ebay to benefit a local nonprofit.

The proceeds from the sale of the car, featured in Kramer's series "Dare to Live" on MTV, will go to the Clear Lake Township Land Conservancy.

The car was be sold "as is," according to the ebay listing.

The sale ends today.

At 10:30 a.m. today there were 45 bids in and the price was at $1,135.

The Chainsmokers — Grammy-winning electronic dance music deejays and producers Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart — performed in April at The Venue in Angola for an MTV filming that was included in "Dare to Live." Kramer's friend Sean Hanson, owner of The Venue, hosted an epic party for the occasion.

"When I come home it's always important to me to reground myself. I come to my friend Sean's bar The Venue because he supported me before I had anything and now that I have a little bit of success, it's important to me to repay him for what he did for me," said Kramer.

His parents, Tom and Susan Kramer, live at Clear Lake. The car auction is a way to give back to a place he grew up, Kramer said in his listing.

Kramer brought Justin Bieber to Steuben County in 2015. Bieber visited The Venue and played an impromptu drum set. He also got out on Clear Lake on a wakeboard and a pontoon. Footage from that visit made its way to MTV as well.

The decapitated Taurus from the Chainsmokers' visit has been dubbed "Customized." Kramer and The Chainsmokers cut the top off to make it a permanent convertible.

"This car is not street legal and has no seatbelts. Sold as-is," says the ebay listing.
