Ciara dropped by Good Morning America Thursday morning (Oct. 12) to announce the nominees for six categories for the 45th American Music Awards, including artist of the year and pop/rock song and album of the year. Joining hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Lara Spencer at the anchor desk, the "Goodies" singer started out by announcing the nominees for a category she knows well: Favorite Female Artist: Pop/Rock.
FAVORITE FEMALE ARTIST – POP/ROCK
Alessia Cara
Lady Gaga
Rihanna
She then revealed the men up for the same award:
FAVORITE MALE ARTIST – POP/ROCK
Drake
Bruno Mars
Ed Sheeran
Ciara also ran down the names in the biggest category: Artist of the year, which pits EDM superstars against two or rap's biggest names and a pair of pop mega-hitmakers:
ARTIST OF THE YEAR
The Chainsmokers
Drake
Kendrick Lamar
Bruno Mars
Ed Sheeran
Moving on, Ciara unveiled the stiff competition for Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group, where Chainsmokers were again in the mix, against two mega-popular arena rock stars:
FAVORITE DUO OR GROUP – POP/ROCK
The Chainsmokers
Coldplay
Imagine Dragons
The competition is just as stiff in the Favorite Pop/Ropck album category, where Drake and Bruno Mars are in the mix against The Weeknd:
FAVORITE ALBUM – POP/ROCK
Drake, More Life
Bruno Mars, 24K Magic
The Weeknd, Starboy
They held off announcing the noms in the final category, Favorite Pop/Rock Song, until the end because they just happened to have one of the nominees, Halsey, in the house to perform after the reveal:
FAVORITE SONG – POP/ROCK
The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey, "Closer"
Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, "Despacito"
Ed Sheeran, "Shape of You"
"It's unbelievable," Halsey said of the nod. Wearing an oversized red coat, red sports bra and red leather pants, the raven-haired singer added, "I think my first television performance I ever did was the AMAs, with the guys, with the Chainsmokers, so having that come full-circle is really special."
You can vote for the AMAs on Billboard.com, and be sure to tune in to the show next month to find out who wins. The 2017 American Music Awards will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
