Justin Bieber reportedly went to the hospital earlier this spring after suffering a sports-related injury — and now that fated ER visit seems to have led to a lawsuit.
According to TMZ, the pop star sought medical treatment after fearing he might have seriously injured his testicles while playing soccer. Luckily, Justin was only diagnosed with swelling, rather than the more serious testicular torsion he feared (a condition where the blood flow is cut off to the testicles, and often requires surgery).
However, false rumors reportedly surfaced among the hospital staff that Justin was admitted for an STI, while sources close to the singer tell TMZ that the sports injury story is the truth. (Justin, for his part, has not commented on the the rumors in any capacity.)
Nevertheless, a hospital staffer by the name of Kelly Lombardo alleges that she was wrongfully fired in connection to the visit. The hospital reportedly claimed that she attempted to illegally access Justin's medical records, which would be a violation of his privacy. Now Lombardo is suing for wrongful termination, saying that she never tried to illegally access Justin's records.
People adds that Lombardo claims she never believed the rumors about Justin having an STI, and that she never even interacted with the singer during his visit. David H. Rosenberg, her attorney, tells People that when the hospital fired her, they allegedly suggested that she might have wanted to look at Justin's records because she is a "young female." In a statement, Rosenberg explained: "My client never accessed Mr. Bieber's file. She was falsely accused of doing so on account of her gender. We look forward to vigorously prosecuting these claims with the New York Division of Human Rights."
