Last weekend, Kylie Jenner became the latest celeb to crash a random school's prom when she went to a Sacramento teen's as his date. She continues the trend that John Mayer, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, and countless others started in the '00s.
Here, all the celebs who've prom-crashed in style: Some had invites to the dance; two did it for MTV (T.Swift and RiRi); and the rest just waltzed on in.
Kylie Jenner and Jordyn Woods
The two friends crashed Rio Americano High School's prom in Sacramento when Jenner found out that student Albert Ochoa's date had rejected him. She Snapchatted a bit of the night, and the students themselves posted videos on Twitter of her attendance.
Rihanna
In 2007, RiRi appeared on MTV's reality series Once Upon a Prom and went as shy teen Richard's date at Jefferson High School in Tampa. She took an excellent prom photo with him.
Taylor Swift
Swift also appeared on MTV's Once Upon a Prom, going with high school senior Whit Wright to Hillcrest High School's prom. This was peak 2008 country Swift, worth watching below. (2016 Swift, on the other hand, crashes weddings.)
Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato
The two former best friends crashed the June 2009 prom at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute in Toronto after the premiere of their Disney Channel movie, Princess Protection Program. Gomez posted some photos on her MySpace and tweeted her joy at the night. "PPP peeps and I crashed a prom tonight and danced with a highschool!! amazing!! I finally had prom!"
Lovato also shared her joy:
Lovato would attend another prom—Grapevine High School's in Dallas—the next year with her childhood friend Nolan Nardecchia. She tweeted the following picture with him:
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
Bieber became the talk of Los Angeles' Charter High School when he crashed their dance in April 2015. He came in wearing a fedora, and students documented it on Twitter:
He also brought his then-best friend (and later maybe more) Hailey Baldwin with him, who posted a pic of the night on Twitter:
Katy Perry
In August 2010, while Perry was touring in Australia, the singer decided to crash Melbourne High School's prom at the Grand Hyatt. She apparently made her entrance, a student told Radar Online, by coming in when "California Gurls" was playing and grabbing a microphone to sang along to it. "She was dancing and laughing with students until the end of the song when she was subtly whisked away by her security guards. Everyone went nuts and it was the perfect ending to our evening."
Perry bragged about her prom crashing on Twitter:
John Mayer
In 2004, the singer appeared at Pennsbury High School's prom in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania—the final result of a two-year effort to get Mayer to come. He did a three-song concert and reportedly told the kids after, "Go be amazing people, and I'll see you again."
Jason Derulo
In 2013, the singer stopped by Culver City High School's prom in Los Angeles. He performed for the students, took his top off, and crowned the Prom King and Queen. He also posted a little vlog of the entire thing on his YouTube page, which is a real delight. "Today we are crashing a prom," he began in a wonderfully chipper way.
Kellan Lutz
In June 2015, Lutz accepted Brianna Siciliano's invitation to be a date at her prom at Monroe Township High School in New Jersey. The two had been friends after Siciliano reached out to Lutz over social media about being bullied. But the best part hands down is Lutz doing all the prom pics. He has the pose down:
Iconic.
