It seems like there's a trend starting—celebrities are beginning to get fed up with always being at the center of the selfie craze.
Justin Bieber is the latest celebrity to declare himself done taking photos with fans.
This started when Amy Schumer recently declared herself done with taking photos with fans. A fan had stuck a camera in her face and started taking a video of the two of them together. She asked him to stop, but he didn't. She then returned the favor by taking a picture of him. She posted it and called him out and said she was done taking photos with fans.
Bieber is now doing the same. He seemed to be looking for some alone time originally as he strolled around Boston wearing sweats and was barefoot listening to music on his headphones. Several people snapped pictures of him walking and sitting on a park bench and shared them to social media. He was also seen feeding a squirrel, although he had obtained shoes by that point.
It's unclear whether this was the straw that broke the camel's back or if there were other encounters with fans that haven't been seen, but after his barefoot walk, he then posted a rant to Instagram about how he is fed up with being the subject of so many photos.
He posted: "If you happen to see me out somewhere know that I'm not gonna take a picture I'm done taking pictures. It has gotten to the point that people won't even say hi to me or recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity. I realize people will be disappointed but I don't owe anybody a picture. and people who say 'but I bought ur album' know that you got my album and you got what you paid for AN ALBUM! It doesn't say in fine print whenever you see me you also get a photo. Justin Bieber."
Someone going by the screenname of "braekess" then commented, "You're such a pr---. Your fans are the reason you are as successful as you are. The least you could do is take pictures with them. I'm sure it's annoying not being able to live a 'normal' life, but 'normal' isn't what you signed up for. Get over it and stop being a douche."
Bieber then took a screencap of the comment and posted that to Instagram along with yet along lengthy message: "Braekess you are so right btw you Instagram name is fire. Years ago it was impossible to even take a picture at anytime not everyone was accessible to a camera now everyone has a camera phone and Now it's just a different thing. If you think setting boundaries is being a douche I'm the biggest douche around but I think it's smart and will be the only way I last. I wanna enjoy life and not be a slave to the world and their demands of what they think I need to do! I love the fact that I am able to make people happy but cmon if you truly were in my position you would understand how tiring it is (boo ho Justin get over it) I'm going to keep making decisions I feel are fit for my growth and no human being will make me feel bad for it."
Like Schumer, Bieber will probably be changing his mind and deciding he will be taking photos again but will most likely be doing it under the new boundaries that he is trying to set for himself and his image.
