Justin Bieber and Skrillex are being sued by a singer-songwriter, who says Bieber's "Sorry" plagiarized her 2014 song "Ring the Bell."
I guess they can't just say they're ... sorry?
Now I'm sorry.
White Hinterland, whose real name is Casey Dienel, also names Universal Music and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp., according to Entertainment Weekly.
In the suit, Hinterland says "The identical and/or striking similarity of 'Sorry' to Plaintiff's song 'Ring the Bell' surpasses the realm of generic coincidence and independent creation."
The Bieber song, on which Skrillex collaborated, was released in October 2015, more than a year after the release of "Ring the Bell."
The suit says Hinterland's people sent the Bieber camp a letter, informing them of their copyright infringement claim, along with details in musical terms concerning how the songs are similar. It says they didn't respond.
Hinterland wants damages, a judge to declare the copyright infringement, and an injunction preventing any more copyright infringement.
I'm betting a co-writing credit on a money-making Justin Bieber single would probably do the trick.
Entertainment Weekly said reps for Bieber, Hinterland and Skrillex didn't respond to requests for comment.
