Two months ago, one now-engaged Hailey Baldwin gave an interview with the Times UK in which she said that she and Justin Bieber should really just be friends. Repeating this for emphasis: two.months.before.they.got.engaged.
At the time, she explained that one hard part about their 2016 relationship was that she had "never been through [a high-profile relationship] like that" and she felt like it was "weird." She then said, "It brought both of us to the realization that we just work much better as friends. He's somebody I really cherish. Now it's a very mature situation. It's good."

!!!!! This is all very awkward considering shortly after this they actually got back together, which means that either that were already together when she said this or they went from "being friends is best" to "let's get married" in less than eight weeks. EIGHT WEEKS.

"Justin and I were friends for a long time. I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends," she also said in the interview, clarifying what went down in 2016.
"Everybody knows that at a certain point in time that turned into something else, but that just happens when you're 18, 19. It was what it was. We went through a long period of time when we weren't friends. We didn't speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on. We've moved past that."
Obviously they've rekindled their love since then, deciding to spend the rest of their lives together. And a lot can change in a short amount of time, right? Hope they can transcend the friend zone effectively and live happily ever after!
