Most artists are lucky to make it big and make an impact under one name, while some of the biggest and greatest can do so twice, but even that is rare. Super-producer Diplo has now pushed boundaries, explored new sonic territory and even charted true hits with several bands and on his own, and he has two new side projects just getting started. The musician released an EP on his own earlier this year, and he's already working on collections of songs to potentially drop in 2018 for three different groups. He's easily one of the hardest working people in the music industry, and he somehow finds a way to be one of the greatest as well.
Here's a look at the five names Diplo records and releases music under, including his newly-announced two new ones.
Diplo
While he doesn't always prioritize his solo work, Diplo first made his name as an artist under his own moniker. He has only released one proper full-length, but he's gifted the world with half a dozen EPs, plenty of compilations, live recordings and more singles than anyone could count, both as a leading act and as a featured guest. He's never managed a true smash single on his own, though a number of his tracks have performed well on dance charts and on international rankings, and they have all helped him build his name in the field.
In addition to the music he's released as an artist under the brand Diplo, that's the label he uses to produce for most other acts, and he's found a lot of success going down that road as well. Diplo has produced songs for artists like M.I.A., No Doubt, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Robyn, Usher, Bruno Mars and dozens of others. He's behind some of the coolest and most successful tracks of the last decade or so, though he's never really received the credit such a successful songwriter and producer normally would, as his own music from side projects always seems to outshine the material he crafts for others.
Major Lazer
If the name Diplo isn't well-known when it comes to hit singles, it's because he's released most of his biggest radio successes with his group Major Lazer, which is where he first rose to prominence as an artist. The group showed how inventive they could be with early cuts like "Pon De Floor" (which Beyoncé would later sample on her hit "Run The World") and "Get Free," and it wasn't long before they managed to conjure and release true blockbusters like "Cold Water" and "Lean On," which for a while was the most-streamed song in the world.
The world is eagerly awaiting another Major Lazer album (which should be released at some point in 2018), and there's every reason to believe it will churn out at least one big single and that whatever form the collection takes, it will feature some of the most famous names in the music industry.
Jack Ü
From the moment Diplo announced he and fellow electronic dance superstar Skrillex were pairing up to create music together under a new name, everyone who had ever heard the two separately knew that something special was coming...and they were right. To date, Jack Ü has only produced one album, but it was a massive success, and it resulted in Diplo proving once again that he could secure massive chart success and critical acclaim on his own and in any group he chose to be a part of. The duo's debut full-length went on to win the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album, and breakout single "Where Are Ü Now," which featured Justin Bieber, won all three artists a Grammy for Best Dance Recording, giving Bieber and Diplo their first trophy.
