In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Shawn Mendes is opening up about being compared to Justin Bieber, meeting Elton John and why he loves Kanye West.
The Canadian cutie, 19, who just dropped a new self-titled album, says getting compared to his fellow Canadian, Bieber, is a "compliment": "One thing people may not know about me is how much I look up to Bieber."

Adding, he owes a lot to him, "I learned every one of his songs by heart. He taught me how to riff and sing."
And despite making a name for himself, worldwide, Mendes says performing for John made him much more nervous than meeting the Queen at her 92nd birthday party, "I was nervous and my hands were shaking and my body was shaking."
Mendes says he'll never forget what John said to him following his performance, "I got off stage and he called me to his dressing room just to basically say, 'Hey, man. What's up? I love the new music and I'm so proud of you. It's so amazing to see how you're touring and how you're handling everything. You should be really happy with yourself.' It was just a really, really kind of surreal moment."

Not only is John a hero to the "In My Blood" singer, but so it West.
But what makes West such an inspiration? "Just his creativeness, man," Mendes says. "His ability to not be afraid to say what he wants. I think a lot of people make music based off what is working, and he is somebody who makes the music that people base their music off. That's inspiring."
