Kanye's effusive tweets toward Trump and the alt-right have reportedly led to several of his peers, including Rihanna and Justin Bieber, to unfollow him on Twitter. Will adidas follow?
Kanye West Kanye West's tweets supporting President Donald Trump have not gone down too well with his fans, especially the black and liberal community. Neither does it look as if adidas, which struck a deal with him after the singer's deal with Nike went sour, will have much patience with West's pro-Trump raves.
Adidas went with West's influence with his fans that made the Kanye sneaker line one of the most in-demand shoes in the market. But what if that influence fizzles out? Last year, Adidas, along with numerous other companies, vowed to fight against Trump's attempted ban on Muslims entering the US.
If that is the case, can the apparel and shoe maker remain silent while its ambassador goes vocal against what the brand stands for? "You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought," tweeted West last week.
Most watchers feel that the fine line between free thinking and dousing the flames of racism and misogyny has been crossed.
