As far as wishes go, this has got to be near the top of the all-time ridiculous list.
Texas A&M quarterback Nick Starkel, who attended Argyle Liberty, turned 20 on Saturday. His birthday wish? To meet pop star Justin Bieber.
Yeah, you read that right. Starkel posted a video on Saturday night, announcing his intentions. He hopes to start a social media campaign that elicits Ellen Degeneres's help in achieving his dream during a March spring break trip to Los Angeles.
"For me, I just have one wish and that wish is to meet Justin Bieber," Starkel says in the video, which shows him in various parts of Kyle Field. He's even shown lip-syncing a Bieber song while dancing at midfield.
Starkel seems to be having a good time doubling down on his Bieber fandom, which started during the 2017 season, his redshirt freshman year. He started wearing a Bieber T-shirt under his jersey during games and kept doing it as a good-luck charm. He's obviously taken some ribbing (some good-natured and some probably not) but isn't fazed.
Indeed, he seems genuinely excited by the reaction (good and bad) his Bieber love has attracted. Whatever floats your boat, Nick.
It's just a little sad that an Aggies quarterback is infatuated by a pop start adored mostly by teenage girls.
It's hard to fathom former Aggies quarterbacks such as Gary Kubiak and Bucky Richardson swooning over pop idols of their day. Did Kubiak have a secret man-crush on Leif Garrett in 1980? Was Richardson dying to meet Kirk Cameron in 1988?
Doubt it.
