He caused a stir among fans with his new hairstyle at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.

But James Lock has now revealed his striking side-swept 'do is simply the result of his healing hair transplant - and is not his new look.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the 31-year-old assured fans they will never see the Justin Bieber-inspired hairstyle again, after they hit out at his appearance on social media.

After shocking fans with the debut, James took to Instagram to explain the bizarre look to his followers.

Sharing a snap of himself and Yazmin at the event, he wrote: 'For everyone wondering what's going on with my hair, 2 weeks ago I had a hair operation and it hasn't healed yet! Hence the bieber hairstyle!!

'This is not my new look! You will be glad to know you will never see this hairstyle again, but thanks for the feedback... it's all love!'

The TOWIE star sported a sweeping fringe reminiscent of the style favoured by the Canadian pop sensation as he attended the event with girlfriend Yazmin Oukhellou.

Debuting the hairstyle on Instagram, James, 31, admitted he'd taken his cue from the Sorry singer when opting for his latest look.

Sharing a snap of his freshly cut fringe, he wrote: 'What's everyone think of my new Bieber haircut? #belieber ready for the #ntas.'

However not everyone was won over, with one fan commenting: 'not sure you should write this directly on the post.'

Seemingly in agreement, another added: 'What. Have. You. Done.'

A third dubious fan wrote: 'It's a Big fat No from me don't fix something that doesn't need fixing.'

The new look comes after James revealed he had undergone a hair transplant - despite not really needing one.

Sharing snaps of the procedure, he wrote: 'On Monday I went and had hair reconstruction surgery as this is something I have always wanted to do for myself as I have always been a bit self conscious of my hairline.

'I am currently in the healing process so cannot see my results yet but can already tell it's going to look how I've always wanted.

'I will update you all with pictures once I'm a bit more recovered and less zombie looking.'

A rep for the clinic in question said at the time that James was 'feeling really conscious about his image. It's something that has been bothering him for quite a while.'
