2017 is a wrap, so excuse us as we dust off our crystal ball, shuffle our tarot cards and read some sweaty palms. That's right: We're making predictions for what's to befall celebrities over the next 12 months. Just don't hold us to them.
• We don't see the flood of sexual misconduct allegations stopping. Through the next 12 months, expect to see more stars accused of bad behavior that will get them blacklisted from whatever is their business. We're not going to predict who'll be outed next because that would be legal suicide, but it's safe to say the momentum of this movement will continue.
• Kim Kardashian and rapper husband Kanye West will likely choose another ridiculous name for their third child. The couple already have daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 2, so we predict they'll be going one of two ways for baby No. 3: They could stick with cardinal directions and name the latest little one South; or they could keep up the sacrilege with something like Virgin Mary.
• Also expecting their third child: Prince William and Kate Middleton. Based on nothing more than a hunch, we think the upcoming baby, who's due in April, will be a boy. Gender aside, we can be certain that whichever name they pick for this bundle of royal joy will soar to the top of the list of trendiest baby names for 2018.
• We don't think Meghan Markle's wedding dress will surprise us when she marries Prince Harry on May 19. The "Suits" star seems rightfully eager to please her in-laws-to-be, so she'll likely walk down the aisle of Windsor Castle's St. George's Chapel in a conservative gown made by a British designer. Sarah Burton, creative director for Alexander McQueen, was behind Kate Middleton's wedding dress, so she might be a safe bet. But we wouldn't count out a custom number from Vivienne Westwood. If it was good enough for Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City," it's good enough for newfound royalty.
• Taylor Swift will probably continue being a drama magnet. She's kept her public feuds with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry alive and well this past year, and we suspect she'll be taking names, especially as she goes on tour. Those existing beefs will persist — even if Perry is in Swift's music video for "End Game," as some folks speculate. There are problems that even incredible choreography cannot fix.
• No matter how much we hope and pray, we think there's no way Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will stay together this year. Jelena's history is far too long and tumultuous for it to work out this time around. In fact, there are reports that the singers have already gone to couple's therapy since reconciling. By now, we know better than to think they'll make it work.
• The awards season — from the Golden Globes next week to the Oscars in March — is going to be peppered with political rants. With many walks to the podium and "I'd like to thank the Academy"s, we will be dealt a heaping helping of Trump hate. We know the entertainment industry is always good for it.
• Women will be all about the #metoo movement when accepting their 2018 accolades. Notables names, like Gwyneth Paltrow and Salma Hayek, opened up about being victims of sexual misconduct, and we expect to hear female award-winners to speak out against the industrywide issue
• We're overdue for a new Hollywood sweetheart and we think Ava Phillippe, daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, is it. The 18-year-old is the spitting image of her Oscar-winning mother and she turned serious heads in November when she debuted at the exclusive Bal des Debutantes in Paris. We see the spotlight following her in 2018.
• Mark Wahlberg will probably defend his title of top-paid actor. Forbes named the Dorchester native, who raked in an impressive $68 million, the highest-earner for 2017. Judging from the movies that'll be making him money in 2018 and beyond — think "All the Money in the World," "Mile 22," "The Roman" and "Instant Family" — we don't see Wahlberg's cash flow slowing down.
