Selena Gomez's Mom Breaks Her Silence on Justin Bieber Reunion

When Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber reunited in 2017, the internet was divided on whether it was a good thing. At least one person was decidedly for the rekindled romance — Justin Bieber's mom, Pattie Mallette, has been open about her love of the young couple. But Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, might not be as thrilled.

In a new interview with Gossip Cop, Teefey admitted that she's "not happy" the pair are back together. While she didn't elaborate on her reasoning, she did speak about Gomez's well-documented health problems, including her ongoing battle with lupus, which led the "Bad Liar" singer to require a life-or-death kidney transplant in 2017.

"When you are young, you feel invincible and she had to learn that she was not able to be your typical 20-year-old," Teefey told Gossip Cop.

Teefey also noted that she hasn't spoken to Bieber in years, including during Gomez's surgery, but that she trusts her daughter to keep her own well-being a priority.

"She is 25 years old and knows what is at stake with her health. I do not control her the way it has been portrayed," Teefey said. "Selena is an adult and can make her own choices."

Gomez and Bieber have been on-and-off since first getting together in 2010. While neither has publicly commented on their current reunion, Gomez recently said that maturity can make all the difference in a relationship.

"I'm 25. I'm not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life," she said. "So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away."

The pop-star pair recently took a pre-holiday vacay together, seemingly going as strong as ever. And while Gomez's mom may not be fully on-board with the rekindled romance, she clearly remains supportive no matter what. "Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe, and healthy," she told Gossip Cop.
