Lil Jon Helps Open a Second School in Ghana

Lil Jon may have been absent from the music scene for a while but his charitable work has been keeping him busy. Last October, Lil Jon announced that he funded and opened a primary school in Ghana with the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise. Now, Lil Jon and PoP have teamed up again to open a second school.

Lil Jon and PoP's new school, the Mafi Atitekpo DA Primary School, will host 313 students and is the second primary school in the Mafi Atitekpo village in Ghana, following the Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten school that Jon opened back in October. Jon donated a cool $70,000 to help fund both schools.

"I'm all about helping children," he toldCNN. "Children are our future and every child deserves to have an environment where they can learn and flourish and gain knowledge."

After traveling to Ghana for the first time last October, Jon saw how distracting the learning environment was for the kids and as a father of a student himself, the producer was inspired to join the organization.

"Children shouldn't have to suffer for any reason," he said. "One of these kids could grow up to be a scientist, a lawyer, an astronaut, the president of their country. I could create an environment where all these things could happen."

Pencils of Promise is committed to providing quality education to people from all over, and has built over 400 schools since its inception in 2008. PoP was founded by Adam Braun, brother of talent manager Scooter Braun, who helped launch the careers of pop superstars like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
