This winter, Serendipity 3 served its 25 millionth Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. The colorful, eclectic cafe on the lowest corners of New York's Upper East Side may be familiar to fans of the John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale rom-com of the same name, but before the film, those who stumbled on the eatery serendipitously fell in love with the now iconic drink. During its 64-year legacy in Manhattan, the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate has been sipped by Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and many more celebrities
Served in a soda fountain-esque glass with two straws and a mountain of whipped cream sprinkled with chocolate shavings, this indulgent treat is a favorite of celebrities, New Yorkers and tourists who make a special trip (and often wait in line) for their own sips of the icy dessert. If it even is dessert-- Most patrons, however, order the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate before their meal, Serendpity 3's founder and owner, Stephen Bruce, says.
In honor of the 25,000,000 and counting cups of Frrrozen Hot Chocolate served daily at the New York establishment, Bruce shared a few little known facts about the beloved drink, so you can indulge in a little Serendipity trivia next time you wait outside for your own taste of the beverage.
Twelve people have gotten married in the frozen beverage.
"Over the years, six couples have gotten married in a bathtub or swimming pool filledwith Frrrozen Hot Chocolate on Valentine's Day," Bruce says.
A First Lady was denied the recipe.
"Jackie Kennedy asked for the recipe to serve at the White House and was denied the secret recipe," Bruce says. Oprah later procured the recipe.
But some famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate lovers get special treatment.
