Social Media Company Promises to Bring Big-Name Performer to Pocatello

You may have seen a post on Facebook about a surprise concert coming to Pocatello. A social media company called Weknect says they're bringing one of five big name artists to town.

Jessica Lambert is one of the co-founders of Weknect, a social media platform moving here from California. The concert has gotten a lot of backlash on social media.

People are skeptical, one user even getting in a Facebook confrontation with Lambert.

"We felt the need to defend ourselves and our program and what we've been pushing so hard for," said Lambert, "But then after a while it was like, whatever we say, it didn't really matter."

But the company says the concert is happening, and they already have a contract with an artist. They say the concert will feature one of five artists: Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande.

They were originally looking to have the concert in Salt Lake City.

"When you start to do the math on that, you're like wow all the time you need to spend to get there, if you plan to stay overnight, you need a hotel," said Lambert, "So we started to form this process of, alright, well, maybe we just bring one here."

They're in discussions with Idaho State University about using Holt Arena as a venue. But as of now, ISU says they do not have a contract with Weknect, no deposit has been paid and they haven't seen an artist contract. Weknect says that it was mistakenly released to the public that the concert would be at Holt, making many think it's a scam.

"There's a level of skepticism and we completely understand that and we knew that coming into a town that doesn't regularly have this there would be even more skepticism," said Lambert, "We are 100% legit, we are real people, you can visit us and say what you need to say." 

Lambert says they were able to contact the artist because the company has worked with her in the past, and the concert is booked as a private performance. The company is still in the process of moving, but they'll be located in an upstairs office at 200 South Main St.

Lambert says the company chose Pocatello because it's business friendly, and open to new ideas and innovations.
