Lawsuit Over Justin Bieber's 'Sorry' Is Dismissed

Back in 2016, artist Casey Dienel (known for making music under the name White Hinterland) filed a lawsuit against Justin Bieber for his song "Sorry," arguing that the song mimicked the same vocal riff she used in her 2014 song "Ring the Bell." The suit asked for monetary damages and for Bieber to stop performing the song. And now, according to documents filed on December 18, Dienel has moved to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit.

"I offered Bieber's team an opportunity to have a private dialogue about the infringement, but they refused to even acknowledge my claim, despite the obviousness of the sample," Dienel wrote in a Facebook post back in 2016. "Justin Bieber is the world's biggest artist, and I'm sure that he and his team will launch a full attack against me." Shortly after the lawsuit went public, producer Skrillex released a video showing how he created the vocal riff in "Sorry."

Jezebel has reached out to Dienel for comment and will update this post when she responds.
