Justin Bieber's Friends Telling Him To Marry Selena Gomez?

Are Justin Bieber's friends really encouraging him to marry Selena Gomez just so that he "won't lose her"? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop is told it's "not true."

Us Weekly reports Bieber is "contemplating a grand gesture." It then has a so-called "insider" quoted as saying, "His friends are telling him he should ask her to marry him so that he won't lose her." The publication's supposed "source" further notes, "He wants to marry her," but then quickly proceeds to back away from that premise, conveniently adding how a "proposal won't happen anytime soon."

This is actually textbook tabloid double-talk. The publication says Bieber is "contemplating" a grand gesture instead of saying he's actually going to pop the question. Next, it shifts the responsibility to "his friends," who are allegedly telling him he should marry Gomez, rather than Bieber deciding that on his own. And then there's the line about how a "proposal won't happen anytime soon," which is the way gossip magazines hope its readers forget its mistakes over the course of time.

Basically, the outlet seemingly manufactured its newest report after Bieber was asked a question about proposing to Gomez by paparazzi as he was leaving a restaurant in Beverly Hills. But the singer said nothing, smiled and walked away. Not surprisingly, his non-reaction left the door open wide enough for a slew of outlets to concoct a number angles about Bieber possibly asking Gomez to marry him, and the tabloid's story is just one of them.

In the real world, people ask other people to marry them because they want to, not because their friends are telling them. Gossip Cop fact-checked this claim, and no one in Bieber's world is suggesting he propose to Gomez out of fear he "might lose her" again. Nor is anyone in his inner circle leaking inaccurate stories to tabloids. It appears Us Weekly is just trying to get into the conversation about their relationship, while playing both sides. As we've noted, Bieber and Gomez have rekindled, but they're not nearly as serious as some outlets have alleged.

Of course, the gossip magazine doesn't have the best track record when it comes to reporting on the two stars. Last year, for instance, Gossip Cop corrected the publication after it falsely maintained Bieber accused Gomez of "using him." If that were the case, would he now be "contemplating" proposing to her? Here's a better proposal: Maybe the outlet should find better Bieber sources.
