In 2016, White Hinterland (aka Casey Dienel) sued Justin Bieber and Skrillex over the pop star's 2015 hit single "Sorry." She claimed the song mimicked "unique characteristics of the female vocal riff" that occurred in her 2014 song "Ring the Bell." Now, she has reportedly filed paperwork to drop the lawsuit, according to TMZ. Initially, Dienel sought money and for Bieber to stop playing the song. The song's co-writers—Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, and Michael Tucker (BloodPop)—were all named in the lawsuit. Pitchfork has reached out to both Bieber's and Dienel's reps for comment.
Last year, Dienel spoke with Pitchfork, explaining that she'd approached Bieber's team with "an opportunity to have a private dialogue," but they refused and she felt compelled to stand up for her music. Skrillex later denied her claim.
