The singer recently said he was stepping back from the platform because he was tired of all the negative it generates
THIS week Ed Sheeran announced he was quitting Twitter thanks to the various trolls he has to deal with on an hourly basis.
The singer revealed that he had decided to stop reading comments posted to him as he found them mean and destructive.
He told the Irish Sun: "I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it, I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things.
"Twitter's a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it."
Ed played Glastonbury a couple of weeks ago and faced a lot of backlash concerning his set online immediately afterwards.
More than one Twitter user referred to him as a "ginger busker" and accused him of using a backing track.
Before he left the social media site he responded saying: "Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google."
Now I know on a global scale this is a relatively minor event, I mean that's depending on how much you cared about Ed Sheeran's tweets of course.
But I do find it telling that even though he is a multimillionaire megastar he can still be affected in a very real way by the words of a few (thousand, in his case I'm sure) keyboard warriors.
None of us are immune to bullying or relentless criticism and none of us should have to justify taking a break sometimes.
Social media has become a massive part of our day-to-day lives, it has its many benefits of course — keeping us connected and elevating boredom mainly. But we also know it has many more downsides.
Ed was mocked for making the decision to quit Twitter for a while, or maybe forever.
But fair play to him.
Why subject yourself to that if it's making you unhappy?
I'm pretty sure his PR manager must have had a fit — it's far more important for him to be on there than any of us regular Joe Soaps.
I think we could learn a thing or two from Ed and take a social media detox ourselves every now and again.
What's wrong with boobs?
Emily Ratajkowski
EMILY Ratajkowski, best known for being a massive ride, has said that her acting work suffers because of the size of her boobs.
Speaking to Harper's Bazaar Australia this month she said: "There's this thing that happens to me, 'Oh, she's too sexy'.
"It's like an anti-woman thing, that people don't want to work with me because my boobs are too big…
"What's wrong with boobs? They're a beautiful, feminine thing that needs to be celebrated. Like, who cares?
"They are great big, they are great small. Why should that be an issue?"
Last year she was also criticised for posting a topless selfie with Kim Kardashian, which she defended on Twitter at the time with this statement: "However sexual our bodies may be, we need to have the freedom as women to choose when & how we express our sexuality."
She also posed nude for Harper's Bazaar US and said: "When Lena Dunham takes her clothes off, it's considered brave.
"When Justin Bieber takes off his shirt, he's a grown-up. But when a woman who is sexual takes off her top, it plays into something."
And she wrote an essay for Glamour Magazine, stating: "Our society tells women we can't be sexy and confident and opinionated about politics. This would allow us too much power.
"Instead our society asks us to declare and defend our motivations, which makes us second-guess them, all while men do what they please without question."
Say what you will about her and her impressive boobs, she is a woman on a mission to make a point and I think she's doing a great job of it.
Kardashian weak link Rob goes on a mad rant
ROB Kardashian is most definitely the weak link in the Kardashian family empire.
If you missed his strange and very explicit online rant this week then you can consider yourself one of the lucky ones.
On Wednesday he uploaded a bunch of nude photos of his ex-girlfriend Blac Chyna.
With these were posts of screen-grabs featuring text conversations and general lengthy rants about her, her behaviour and her ability to mother her two children — one of whom is Dream Kardashian, her seven-month-old daughter with Rob.
The main reason for this unacceptable outburst was because he had willingly paid hundreds of thousands for plastic surgery, jewellery and such like for Chyna but then discovered she was sleeping with another man.
Okay Rob, firstly that is most definitely your mother's money or perhaps it's one (or all) of your five sisters bankrolling you?
Secondly, Blac Chyna is your ex-girlfriend and so she is absolutely entitled to sleep with whoever she likes.
Even if she accepts your elaborate gifts while doing so, that's your choice to volunteer them.
And lastly, even if you're a Kardashian you cannot post nude pictures of someone on the internet without their consent.
If this abusive rant was supposed to garner sympathy for him it has done the complete opposite.
He has ended up looking like a manipulative, irrational moron while Chyna has kept a dignified silence.
Pop star Kesha has quality ballads
Kesha's new album Rainbow is out in August
FORMER pop star turned ballad-making powerhouse Kesha released the first single from her new album Rainbow this week.
She's been missing from the music scene for four years after becoming embroiled in a legal battle with producer Dr Luke.
He's the man responsible for some of Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Rihanna's biggest hits, to name a few.
Kesha claimed she was drugged and sexually abused by him for years while signed to his record label and subsequently tried to legally end her contract.
Dr Luke claimed the allegations were false and Kesha wanted out of her contract for monetary gain with another label.
After years of legal proceedings Kesha dropped the charges last August stating "this lawsuit [has been] so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again."
Sony Music Entertainment will release her new album but it's not known if it will still be partially released under Dr Luke's label also.
Regardless, she's back and she will be releasing a new song from the album every week until it's out on August 11.
The first single is Praying. It is nothing like her previous pop anthems and by the end of it I had tears in my eyes.
Worth a listen if you haven't heard it already.
