Wayne Rooney: Is it ever a good idea to go back to your ex?

Wayne Rooney's return to Everton has divided fans who are split over whether he will be a success or not.

He's the record goal scorer for Manchester United and England but, in the last season, he hasn't hit the heights of his earlier success.

Getting back with your ex can sometimes work out well - but it can also go very, very wrong.

We look at whether or not it's a good idea with examples from sport, entertainment - and even royalty.

When it does work

Henry's deja vu

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry had scored 226 goals in 369 appearances for the North London club before he left in 2007, so it was a big risk for him to return in 2011.

But he didn't have to worry - the attacker made a perfect return scoring the winner in an FA Cup match against Leeds before scoring a dramatic late winner against Sunderland in his final game for the club.

His return may have been short, but it was very sweet for Arsenal fans.

Didier back for more glory

Didier Drogba took an equally big risk when he made his return to Chelsea in 2014.

His goals for Chelsea from 2004 to 2012 helped them win three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups - not to mention his final kick of the ball for the club in 2012 which won them the Champions League.

But he couldn't resist working with Jose Mourinho once more and returned in 2014 aged 36.

It was worth it. Drogba ended up winning another Premier League title and a League Cup, before being carried off the pitch by his teammates in his final game.

Miley and Liam can't stop

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth first met in 2009 while filming The Last Song, with their first kiss actually being on camera for the movie.

They got engaged in 2012, but just over a year later, they called it quits and announced the marriage was off.

It was in January 2016 when they were first seen together again - and the engagement's back on.

Miley has since suggested that the pair's time apart made their relationship stronger when they got back together, saying: "people who break up and get back together, I think that's awesome, because you know it's true".
