The debate on men's shorts may still be out, but the men's overall is back, and in a big way. It's far from uncharted territory: In 2016, A$AP Rocky teamed up with Guess for a collaboration that included overalls—complete with logo on the bib. Then Chance The Rapper arrived at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards in a Sheila Rashid–designed, khaki-colored pair with matching cap; when BeyoncĂ© later rested her chin on the strap, there were memes of the the singer blessing the fabric. The workwear staple has also taken shape on the Fall 2017 men's runways, as in the herringboned version at Rochambeau, and remains a constant backstage at every show held by Adam Selman, who is always in denim, most often in overalls.
Now, Justin Bieber is the latest to test-drive the trend, as seen today when he stepped out in Sydney wearing camouflage overalls with one strap undone in perfect '90s fashion. He kept the palette tonal with a hooded sweatshirt in forest green, while lug-soled boots from the Timberland x Off-White collaboration brought his laid-back look into the here and now. A chain-link wallet added just the right amount of swagger, like a subtle clue that this bad boy is all grown up.
