'Despacito' collaborator says Justin Bieber deserves 'a little bit of a pass'

Justin Bieber has found himself in hot water as of late with regards to the summer smash hit, "Despacito." Even so, one person who thinks we should be cutting The Biebs a bit of slack is none other than his fellow collaborator on the track, Luis Fonsi.

The "Sorry" singer has faced tons of backlash from fans who just can't understand why Bieber is refusing to perform the track as part of his tour set list. It also doesn't help matters that Bieber came under fire recently for admitting that he doesn't have the lyrics to the chart topper memorized.

While some feel as though Bieber could have at least memorized the lyrics despite not being fluent in Spanish, Fonsi said in a recent interview with ABC News radio that he feels as though we shouldn't be so harsh on the pop star.

"I don't blame him not knowing [the lyrics]. and I think we have to give him a little bit of a pass because that's not his main language," said Fonsi according to Gossip Cop. "We can't expect the guy to just out of the blue get it perfectly."

The Puerto Rican singer then went on to say that he has a lot of respect for Bieber for agreeing to record the track in Spanish, something he did in the studio with the aid of a phonetic printing of the lyrics.

"He had the chance to record the chorus in English. We had a full English lyric, and he decided to take the time to record it in Spanish because he wanted to keep the originality of the song," continued Fonsi. "So I actually applaud the fact that he took the time in the recording studio to do it, and he did a great job."
