A 21-year-old man was arrested Saturday for choking his mother in a car after the two had a fight over lyrics from a Justin Bieber song.
Sheriff's deputies in Traverse City responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. about two people fighting in a white car on U.S. 31 North in Acme Township, as reported by the Record-Eagle.
County sheriff's Capt. Randy Fewless reportedly said that a deputy found a 21-year-old man and his 41-year-old mother, who matched the description.
"(The man) indicated that a Justin Bieber song came on the radio. A verbal argument ensued regarding certain lyrics."
The Tickerreported that the argument reportedly began while the woman was driving the vehicle. She pulled the car over into a gas station, and climbed into the back seat with her son to warn him about being disrespectful in front of his 70-year-old grandmother. The grandmother was also present in the car at the time, as well as a 17-year-old girl.
The 41-year-old told authorities that her son choked her, then got out of the vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, and was booked into the county jail.
The man told police that he may have had contact with her while he attempted to get away.
Fewless reportedly said that this incident isn't the man's first domestic assault arrest. He was previously convicted of domestic assault in 2014.
Justin Bieber, the singer whose lyrics started the altercation, was recently let off the hook for an assault case, as reported by TMZ. Bieber was accused of headbutting a man at a pre-Grammy party who filmed him play fighting with a friend.
Bieber's lawyers reportedly refused to let the police speak to the pop star, and after the alleged victim stopped talking, the investigation was halted. TMZ said the man didn't want to press charges from the beginning.
