Pop musician Justin Bieber and golf great Rickie Fowler stopped in Guanabanas for lunch Wednesday afternoon, wowing other diners and drawing a crowd to the waterfront restaurant on State Road A1A.
"I heard and I called my manager. He said 'Yes, Bieber is here with Rickie Fowler. They are on the patio.' My daughter said "Dad, can we go over," said Chad Van Boven, owner of the restaurant.
Bieber, 23, and professional golfer and Jupiter resident Fowler, 28, stopped in with two other men about 3 p.m. They sat at a table in the center of the outdoor restaurant on the Loxahatchee River.
Bieber ordered a barbecue pork sandwich with filet of red grouper, said Van Boven.
Fowler, who has a home in Jupiter, won the Honda Classic in February.
"Word got out, and there were little kids gathered at the front door. We protected the entry ways. We tried not to bother them," Van Boven said.
Bieber was in between concerts. He had just finished one in Dominican Republic and the next is in Panama, according to his website.
"(Bieber) and Fowler have a mutual friend in the area," Van Boven said.
Famous people and athletes coming into Guanabanas is nothing new. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and entertainer Kid Rock have stopped by. Fowler is a regular, Van Boven said.
"When (Fowler) comes by he's low key. We try to keep the crowds away when there's famous people. They come here because they want to be treated like a regular parson," he added.
After Bieber and Fowler finished their meal, they walked out the restaurant side door to the valet parking lot.
Van Boven's daughter Elle, 14, walked up to Bieber and asked for a photo. Bieber looked at her and said "Nah, it's not going to happen."
Van Boven said he understood.
"If Bieber would have given one photo, everybody would have wanted one. It was great he talked to her," Van Boven said.
