Justin Bieber's India tour has already stirred a hot topic of debate in India. Sonakshi Sinha has been slammed by celebrities like Kailash Kher, Armaan Malik, Amaal Mallik and others as she was rumoured to perform with Bieber at his Mumbai concert. While the actress dismissed the rumours, the debate of actors vs singers had already begun and is now blown up. The latest to join the feud are Alka Yagnik and Amit Trivedi, and they make some valid points. News of the actress performing at Justin Bieber's music concert for his Purpose Tour India fired this debate, and singer Kailash Kher was the first to raise this issue. He expressed his disappointment that actors and not singers are picked to perform with international personalities, whether the Coldplay concert or the more recent Justin Bieber concert. Armaan Malik agreed with Kailash Kher and dissed Sonakshi for taking up opportunities that young and budding singers should receive.
"It takes years and years of devotion to be able to sing and pursue music to reach a professional level. Leave music and singing, any art for that matter requires that. Millions of singers are finding opportunities to work. Imagine how crushed they would feel when they see non-singers getting that chance," Arman Malik had commented on the issue which led to a feud between Sonakshi and Armaan. Sonakshi's brother Luv Sinha also entered the debate and backed his sister, putting down Armaan for his comment. Amaal Mallik was quick to follow suit and defend his brother. He trashed Sonakshi for targeting Armaan who was only agreeing with Kailash Kher. "What my mind fails to comprehend is why she is targeting Armaan alone, because obviously, it's easier to call him insecure than calling a senior Hindustani classical singer that," Amaal wrote.
In the latest development, singer Alka Yagnik has expressed her opinions of actors performing in such concerts in the most sarcastic way possible. "Why not? Why shouldn't actors sing? In any case, anybody can be made to sound like a singer these days, what with the help of advanced technology like auto-tuning," Yagnik said, commenting on the long-running debate.
Music composer Amit Trivedi, on the other hand, was fully in support of actors singing and backed Sonakshi Sinha in this debate. "As long as the actors sing really well, it's all really good. I don't have a problem with actors singing. Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh have sung for me," the composer said.
